January

Kevin Eberly, 12-year-old Pawling resident, has raised over $8,000 to date in support of the U.S.O. Phone Home campaign to provide active military personnel with the cards to make their calls to family back home. Eberly receives commendation from President George Bush for his fundraising, and for his inspiring poem titled "Soldier."

The Enrollment Committee of the Pawling Central School District makes its first presentation to the Board of Education, proposing a priority of renovation and additions at the three existing schools. The committee would favor a new high school if the district owned the property for it.

The new climbing wall is installed at the Pawling Central Middle School, a result of the combined efforts of the Pawling PTA, LEAF (Local Education Advancement Foundation), and P.E. instructors Cathy Senkier and Peter Jacques.

Pawling high varsity, Tiger Athletic Club host Pawling Invitational Wrestling Tournament, as the Tigers place fifth with eight in final round, five second place finishes.

Pawling girls place second, defeat hosts at North Salem Invitational Basketball Tournament.

Kalee Stoever dominates the ice for the 19U Pawling Youth Hockey team. Stoever would qualify for the varsity team at SUNY Cortland in her freshman season in 2005-6.

Pawling Middle School Band performs the instrumental winter concert under the direction of Brian Hynes.

Casey Tanner wins the New York State Championship and Connecticut State Championship in his class for 6-year-olds in the National Bicycle League.

The Pawling Squirt A hockey team wins the Christmas tournament in Salisbury, Ct.



February

The Enrollment Committee hosts public meetings on the subject of expanding enrollment in the public schools and how to accommodate the students in existing or expanded public school facilities.

More than Pawling Girl Scouts bring their moms to enjoy the annual Pajama Jam at the elementary school.

The Battle of the Bands is hosted by the Pawling High School Student Council at Fire Station One.

Pawling High grad Ethan Mason has his own exhibit at the Agora Art Gallery in Soho.



Tiger winter Track & Field enjoys second indoor season setting many new school records.



March

Wrestler Mike Schmitt wins the sectional tournament and is named Most Valuable Wrestler, then wins divisional tournament and advances to the state finals for the second year in wrestling, where he carries the banner for Section One Wrestling Team.

Pawling High wrestlers place six at the sectional tournament.

Congresswoman Sue Kelly receives letters from Rosalyn and James Crego of Ellen Ramey's class at the middle school, pays a personal visit to the students and their class, and makes the school the school of the month on her Web site.

Goaltender Jessica Zublin leads the Greenwich Academy to its first-ever New England Championship for Prep Schools. Zublin is named MVP for the season for New England Prep Schools.

Stone Soup Committee hosts the very successful Community-festival at the middle school, featuring workshops in arts, crafts, yoga, signing and other disciplines.

Pawling Central Middle School Council raises $350 to support Suzanne Fulton and Cathy Senkier in the annual American Heart Association Heart Walk in Poughkeepsie.

Pawling Girl Scouts donate proceeds from cookie sales to the children who were orphaned and homeless by the tsunami in Southeast Asia.

The Annual Greek Agora is staged by the students at the middle school, as the youngsters build booths, post artwork, fashion their own elaborate costumes, and assume the roles of craftsmen and professionals of ancient Greek society.

Pawling Elementary School youngsters raise more than $4,000 for the American Heart Association and learn about health and fitness in annual Jump Rope For Heart Day.

Pawling Little League stages annual march to the town baseball fields on Lakeside Dr. to open the season for more than 300 kids.

Mizzentop Day School students raise $1,250 to support Kevin Eberly in his campaign to support U.S.O. Phone Home program for active military personnel.

Mizzentop kids in Mrs. Fabrizio's kindergarten collect boxes full of essential products for military personnel serving in the Middle East.

Pawling PTA stages first ever art auction at Lathrop Center.

Henrietta Lodge, Amy Levitan, Helen Grosso, Tom Clark and Bruce Cunningham will compete for three seats on the Board of Education.



May

Voters approve 2005-6 School Budget, return Henrietta Lodge and Tom Clark to Board of Education and elect Helen Grosso to first term on the board. Board and administration have estimated tax increase of 5.54%, but actual increase on bills sent out in August is 8.31%.

Town of Pawling, Pawling Central School District sign five-year lease for district to occupy the Donaldson Center at Lakeside Park.

Pawling High boys claim first-ever Section One Class C Track & Field Championship.

"Evening of the Arts" at Pawling High School features choral and band performances, and exhibits of fine arts by the students.

Students in Randy Ross' class at the middle school collect for the Paul Newman "Hole in the Wall Gang Camp", a facility for children with life-threatening diseases. Ross' classes have done this collection for 15 years.

Enrollment Committee makes formal presentation to the Board of Education, with committee majority endorsing additions/renovations at existing sites, but preferring a new high school if the district purchases property.

Mizzentop Day School hosts Second Annual Walk for Ryan, to support the Ryan McElroy Children's Cancer Foundation of Pawling.



June

Pawling High graduation features a record $52,500 in scholarship grants from individuals, businesses and organizations in the local community.

High school graduation honors valedictorian Brittany Lambertus, salutatorian Stephanie Paladini, and BOCES salutatorian Crystal Bailey.

Board of Education honors top ten students in Class of 2005, with their colleges of choice: valedicitorian Brittany Lambertus (Duke University), salutatorian Stephanie Paladini (SUNY Geneseo), Lauren Vinciguerra (Providence College), Kristen Lates (Milligan College), Cathryn Johnson (Dutchess Community College), Kenneth Sterry (Dutchess Community College), Jeremy Apple (Union College), Noelle Gerry (University of Rhode Island), Lisa Riley (Fairfield University), Edgar Garcia (Manhattan College).

Mizzentop Day School honors 12 students at the second annual 8th grade graduation ceremonies.

Pawling High Track and Field stars Colby Delbene and Can Palumbo win section championships, qualify for state finals meet. Delbene ran the 3200 meters in 9:50.2, and Palumbo ran the 110 meter hurdles in 16.2 seconds. Delbene places 8th, Palumbo 12th, at the state meet.

Billy Jo Farrell, Kalee Stoever, Julia Butironi and Noelle Gerry lead soccer Tigers into Section One Championship Tournament.

Roger Smith presents graduating seniors with scholarships to Dutchess Community College.

Casey Volleyball Camps returns to Pawling to develop young lady volleyball players in the community.

The New York Yankees and the New Jersey Devils provided gifts and auction items for the eminently successful Pawling Youth Hockey fundraiser, emceed by Sheriff Adrian "Butch" Anderson.

Pauline Kaplan is elected president of the Board of Education, Henrietta Lodge vice president, as new members Helen Grosso joins Teri Olson, Dennis Munnelly, Robert Gagliano and Thomas Clark.



August

"Where House" Teen Center stages the last camping trip of the summer at Quechee Gorge State Park in Vermont, and tours to New York City to watch the Yankees and Blue Jays play. Arts & Crafts, guitar lessons are on the long list of activities organized by director Rob Ackilli at the center, which is a part of the Pawling Recreation Department, and sponsored in part by the YMCA of Greater New York.

Brittany Rosselle attends American Legion Girls State, sponsored by American Legion Hasler-Kamp Post #215 of Pawling.

Brian Fulton attends American Legion Boys State, sponsored by American Legion Hasler-Kamp Post #215 of Pawling.

Pawling High School cross country team hosts the First Annual Lakeside Park 5K Run, organized by coach Jack Power.

Pawling Roller Hockey enjoys another exciting season at Lakeside Park, with all activities being staged on a roller rink built by the organization and volunteer construction companies.

MLS Soccer Camp hosts another successful summer camp at Lakeside Park with professional players and coaches from England.

Board of Education adopts the proposal to offer property tax payers to make payments in two installments with imposition of fees for doing so.

Pawling Cadette Girl Scout Troop 268 honors scouts moving up at the Recognition Ceremony.

Danielle Castle sings with the Norm Hathaway Orchestra, as Pawling High School students host the annual Senior Citizens Prom at the middle school.



September

Pawling Central School District opens classes with 52 more students than the previous year, a 3.7% increase in enrollment to a total of 1,457.

Pawling High School field hockey varsity reign as champions the Annual Brewster Invitational Field Hockey Tournament for the first time.

Brittany Patchey and mom Debbie lead the Pawling Volunteer Fire Department drive to collect funds for Hurricane Katrina victims, including all proceeds from the tag sale at Fire Station One.

In the wake of Hurrican Katrina, public schools, Mizzentop School, Trinity-Pawling School, the Sunshine School and the Christ Church Pre-School stage campaigns to collect money, supplies for the victims.

Pawling Tiger Athletic Club and the students at Pawling High School collect new sneakers, ship to victims of Hurricane Katrina.

Kevin Eberly begins campaign to raise funds for his "adopted soldier", U. S. Army Sgt. Kennethia Thomas, and her fellow soldiers in the 256th Brigade Combat Team, Louisiana National Guard". Thomas and others have lost their homes in the devastation on Hurricane Katrina.

Pawling youngsters participate in livestock, equestrian events at the Dutchess County Fair, including Caroline and Patricia McCarthy, Brendan Gaughran, Jennifer Motts, Caitlin Castellano, Kerry Yankowich-Pinelli, Robin and Meagan Nelson, and Kiri and Annie Dolan.

First Lieutenant Kevin G. Smith receives the Bronze Star "for exceptionally meritorious service while serving as a member of the Combined/Joint Task Force-76 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom." Smith is a graduate of Pawling High Scholl and the U. S. Military Academy at West Point.

Children on Circle Dr. stage a grassroots campaign to obtain "Slow: Children at Play" sign on their street. Mayor Rob Liffland and Street Foreman Doug Warren comply, attend the installment ceremony with the youngsters.



October

Pawling High cross country teams, both girls and boys, win league championship at the league meet held on the home course.

Family Fun Day For Hurricane Relief, where the entire community turns out at Lakeside Park to support the victims of Hurricane Katrina, is organized by Ann Godeski and the Pawling High School Peer Leaders, and Rob Ackilli and the Where House Teen Center.

The Norman Vincent Peale Scholarship Program announces winners for the 2004-2005 academic year, including Jessica Hackett, Alexander Walsh, Lindsay Paladini and Stephanie Paladini.

Pawling High football Tigers defeat archrival Dover 16-8 in gale-force winds and rain, as Chris Grippo opens the game with a 90-yard touchdown return for a touchdown, and Ben Ross hits Anthony Reda with a pass into the end zone for the winning touchdown.

Teen Read Night at the Where House Teen Center is sponsored by the Pawling Free Library as part on the national reading initiative known as Teen Read Week.

Kids thrill to the adventure of finding and picking their own pumpkins at the Dykeman Pick-Your-Own Pumpkin Patch on West Dover Road.

Tiger volleyball team wins thrilling match with Valhalla, coming back from 19-24 to win the final and deciding game at 27-25.

Children defeat the parents in the exciting finale to the season for the Pawling Flag Football, a program of the Pawling Recreation Department at Lakeside Park.



November

Pawling Tiger cross-country is a powerhouse on the statewide scene. At the state finals, sophomore Renee Liffland (11th) and sophomore Colby Delbene (5th) earn individual medals, and the boys finish a remarkable third place as a team.

Mizzentop Day School kids collect the goodies, decorate and fill turkey boxes with all the fixings for a family feast on Thanksgiving. The Resources Center distributes them to families in the local community.

Stephanie Olsen and Kristan Kilian receive the prestigious Girl Scout Silver Award in ceremonies held at the Pawling Scout Cabin.

Pawling High music students are selected to perform at the Area All-State Music Festival in Beacon, including Allison Richards, Emily Fitzgerald, Sarah Peck, Kai Sun, David Lates and David Serna.

Using the scholarship money she received from the community upon graduation from Pawling High School, and in particular from the Akin Hall Association and the family of Judy and Roderick Collette, Jaclyn Wagner studies in England in a Cambridge University program.

Pawling Cub Scout Pack 34 feeds the entire community at the fabulously tasty Cub Scout Breakfast at Fire Station One.

Pawling High Field Hockey team wins Section One Championship for the second year in a row, then fall 1-0 in overtime in the regional championship against Pine Plains.

Trinity-Pawling School wins first-ever New England Prep School championship in football, after hosting the first night game in the history of the school.

Pawling Youth Soccer keeps growing and growing, finishes 26th season with more than 300 Pawling youngsters learning the wonderful game.

Matt Houghton is named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his outstanding play in goal for Canisius College.

Faculty talent is on display at the delightful Pawling Central Middle School in the Annual Faculty Follies.



December

Frank DeLuca, Pawling Superintendent of Schools since Jan. 13, 2003, announces his retirement effective June, 2006.

Pawling Youth Hockey begins its 34th year of service to the community, with more that 125 children in programs for children five years old up the high school age.

Trinity-Pawling School students adopt three families in annual support of the Adopt-A-Family program at the Community Resources Center, as football players knit handmade scarves for the families.

Pawling public schools stage a variety of campaigns to collect food for holiday dinners, plus clothing and gifts for the Community Service Center to distribute in the local community.

Pawling High School girl's basketball team begins promising season with easy run to championship at Rye Neck Invitational Tournament.

Pawling High School and Middle School Concerts feature traditional Christmas and Hanukkah music, including an appearance by Snoopy to conduct the Middle School Chorus!
