The Ole Brook Wind Symphony will performing its fall concert at 7 p.m. Thursday in the sanctuary of First United Methodist Church in Brookhaven.
|
During the concert, members will play pieces including "Ceremonial Fanfare," "East of the Sun," "Spiritual," "Parade of Tallships," and "Domingo Ortega".
The group consists of various musicians throughout the community and is conducted by Shaw Furlow, who is director of bands at Copiah-Lincoln Community College. Thursday's performance will be the symphony's tenth since the group began in 2001.
In addition to the concert, the wind symphony is participating in a nationwide fund-raiser to collect instruments for students who lost theirs to Hurricane Katrina.
Symphony members are asking for contributions of used instruments that are no longer needed. The symphony will send any instruments that need refurbishing to Mississippi Music in Jackson for necessary repairs.
The fund-raiser is sponsored by VH1's Save the Music Foundation, MusiCares, the Mississippi Arts Commission, the Mississippi Music Association of Educators and the Mississippi Music Hall of Fame.
For more information, contact Dr. Jim Brewer at (601) 894-5601 or Charley Evans at either (601) 835-0911 or (601) 320-0098.
Thursday's concert is free and open to the public.
