"The state law permits such funds to be collected from levies on earned income or real estate," said township manager Mike Brown.
* The Brandywine Valley Association was hired by the township for educational purposes on environmental issues.
* Police Chief Vance Gossert reported there have been several burglaries in the township. Some have been solved. Most of the burglaries have been at businesses.
* Chairman Wes Darby said at the November supervisors meeting a date will be set for a public hearing on police service in the township. Residents will have an opportunity to express their opinions.
Options available are the current allocations for police coverage, an increase in the allocations, a merger of some type with West Brandywine township or coverage by the State Police.
Darby said when they approached West Brandy-wine about a police merger, they did not agree with the Honey Brook Township proposal.
Darby said he does not like the idea of having police cars with the West Brandywine logo in Honey Brook Township.
* During September the Honey Brook Township Police Department issued 35 traffic citations and six traffic warnings. There were two thefts, a case of drug abuse, two DUI and two cases of mischief.
* There were 29 ambulance assists, five animal complaints, four domestic disputes, 29 security checks, three trespasses and a report of a suspicious person. A complete report is available at the police department.
* Supervisor Don Johnson said the road crew is working on sewers on West Walnut Road.
* The new salt shed behind the township building should be finished by the first week in November. It should hold enough salt for the entire season.
* Brown said storm water management has become a multi-billion dollar project in Pennsylvania and it is going to become a local problem with local solutions. "We will have to work together as municipalities to manage it," Brown said.
Recently Brown was at a storm water management seminar at Villanova University that was fascinating but scary. He said storm water management is a very hard problem to solve and public education is needed. Old sedimentation basins should be checked to see if they are functioning properly. By 2007 more emphasis will be placed on the storm water control.
* A holding tank will be permitted for use by the Honey Brook Community Church at the proposed location at Route 10 and Cambridge Road.
Supervisor Greg Cary said it will be permitted as long as there is a maintenance agreement and there is a check done every few years to determine if they can put in a permanent tile field or another in-ground system.
* Trick or treat night is scheduled for Oct. 31 between the hours of 5 to 8 p.m.
* A budget workshop will be held on November 17.
* Brown said recently there have been requests to use the meeting area of the township building for non government functions.
Darby said traditionally this has not been allowed. After some discussion of the various issues involved it was decided the meeting area should be reserved for township government functions only.
* Darby told a resident that reciting the Pledge of Allegiance is not in the state code, which is why it is not recited at the beginning of township supervisor meetings. He suggested the resident should contact State Representa-tive Tim Hennessey about the situation.
