Birney and other community members worked Tuesday morning to harvest corn on the seven acres of land that Birney had set aside for use in the Foods Resource Bank project. The proceeds from the sale of the crop will be put to use by FRB to help communities in developing countries implement sustainable agricultural practices.
FRB is a multi-denominational Christian organization that helps undernourished people in an unusual way. It does not ship the grain to feed people; instead, it uses the money raised from the sale of crops to provide tools, seed, training and other necessities to provide "food security" to communities in need in such countries as Bosnia, Madagascar, Honduras and Niger.
