Legion Auxiliary
American Legion Auxiliary Unit #76 held its first meeting of the year Sept. 6 at the Legion Hall in Veblen. A six o'clock supper was served to 21 members by hostesses Delores Henning, Elli Nelson, and Gail Vrchota.
The meeting was called to order by President Karen Borgen. Reports were given and members were reminded of the District 4 meeting in Webster Tuesday, Sept. 27. District 4 was the only district in South Dakota to reach membership goal this past year. A student from Veblen, Clay MacConnell, earned second place at state for his Americanism poem entry.
Boodmobile Chairman Elli Nelson reported 39 donors. National Security Chairman Joan Anderson asked the group to continue collecting coupons and boxtops for military families. Our project for Make A Difference Day is a soup and sandwich fundraiser on Oct. 23. The proceeds will go to the Auxiliary Emergency Fund to assist any members who have suffered because of hurricane Katrina.
The members were asked to bring shower gifts and gift shop items to the October meeting. Those who have lap robes ready should bring them, too. There is an opportunity to send these items by car to avoid postage charges.
Dictionaries were presented to the third graders at the open house at the school Sept. 12.
