This steel sculpture titled "Old School" by local artist, Jim Conner is dedicated to fallen riders and to promote motorcycle awareness.
"It's motorcycle season," says Conner, "so please give a second look before pulling out at an intersection." "Most drivers are looking for cars and don't see motorcycles," he continued, "so please be aware. That rider you avoid hitting could be me." Conner has been riding motorcycles for years and wanted to get the attention of the general public by creating and displaying his own designed metal art of a detailed chopper with a "hard tail" frame, springer front end, drag bars and coffin tank. The original piece is 34 inches long and is on display through the month of June at the Coffee Shop owned by Conner at 108 South Main in Sigourney. Conner's display in his front window may make drivers take a second look, especially with so many motorcycle events happening this time of year. Coming up is the ABATE of Iowa "Baldy Ride" on June 18 when motorcyclist will gather at Fremont to honor motorcyclist who have gone before, then ride to the What Cheer Fairgrounds. Conner is an artist and sculpture who displays and sells his one of a kind artwork through the coffee shop on the west side of the Sigourney square. May is motorcycle awareness month in Iowa.
