Calling all wordsmiths

Baldwin Center will have a scrabble tournament Friday, April 1 at 12:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served and prizes awarded. There will be tournament and casual play. The event is open to the public and there is no charge. Sign up at the main desk.

Lecture at Baldwin Center

A lecture on advanced directives will take place Thursday, April 7, at 12:30 p.m., at the Baldwin Center, 1000 West Broad St. Experts will discuss the importance of living wills and other advance directives, as well as organ donation options, during a free lecture presented by Bridgeport Hospital, the Connecticut Bar Association, and the New England Organ Bank. Speakers will include attorney Lyn Eliovson and Sheryl Doulens, donation coordinator for the New England Organ Bank. For information or to sign up, call 385-4050.

Rep. Harkins to host information forum for Stratford seniors

On April 8, state Rep. John Harkins, R-Stratford, will host a forum to provide information to help Stratford senior citizens remain independent and continue to live in their own homes. The forum, entitled "Home, Sweet Home," will begin at 10 a.m. at the Baldwin Center, 1000 West Broad Street, Stratford.

"Elderly residents often hear about programs that are available but are unsure whether they qualify and where to seek assistance," said Rep. Harkins "This forum will offer important details about programs and services as well as the opportunity to ask questions."

Stratford Tax Assessor Brian Lastra will detail local and state programs available to senior citizens, including tax credits and exemptions for Veterans. Attorney Kevin Kelly, with the Bishop, Jackson, Kelly law firm, will address about elderly law issues. Kathy Freda, of Webster Bank, will speak about reverse mortgages.
