Erin's Isle catered the luncheon of veal parmesan with spaghetti. Ann Hennegan, CCW San Marco Luncheon and Fashion Show chairman, said that Erin's Isle owner Mike Ward did a wonderful job, especially since more people showed up than expected.
That helped increase proceeds, part of which will go through Catholic Relief Services to help tsunami victims. The rest of the proceeds go toward Catholic religious education for children and scholarship funds.
Dishes clattered in the kitchen just outside the door of the small dressing room. Models squeezed shoulder-to-shoulder with no mirror to change outfits. Servers and models vied for space. After lunch, Carol Kraley, owner of Floridian Outfitters located in Town Center, presented her island casual-type clothing. Four volunteers including one man modeled five outfits each.
In between fashion displays, four raffle winners were selected. Prizes included a one-week stay at the South Seas Condominium donated by Bill and Roseanne Christ, a $125 spa gift certificate donated by Marriott's Marco Island Resort, $100 cash donated by Hennegan, and a $100 gift certificate for gold jewelry donated by Island Woman Boutique.
Island Woman Boutique Manager Fia Kaplan described outfits and jewelry designed by her mother and boutique owner Anna Carter. Both mom and daughter resigned from teaching and Chicago's snowy winters to move here and run the boutique.
Five volunteer models strutted across the stage and showed two outfits each. These clothes were made of brightly-colored tinsel material. The audience roared with laughter when Fia's two male models appeared wearing "hair hats" - wig-like hair attached under hat bands. Tom, a hair hat model, joked that the long white hair was his. Fia said that people buy these hats all the time. Island Woman Boutique is located in Goodland next to Stan's Idle Hour.
While models changed, about 50 door prizes, including gift certificates for restaurants, salons, stores and baskets filled with goodies were given away.
Father Tim Navin of San Marco Church and Mission of St. Finbarr and Father Andrew Malarz, assistant church pastor,, attended the luncheon. Father Tim helped CCW President Particia D'Ambrosio pass out prizes.
"People have been so cooperative," Ann Hennegan said. "The lunch and fashion show turned out great."
Hennegan added that a lot of people donated time, money and gifts to make this event successful. She said the proceeds will help many people in need.
