MIDDLEFIELD -- A local longtime family-owned orchard can be seen on national television tonight.

Lyman Orchards is one location used for the debut of a new reality television show called "Wickedly Perfect." Emmy Award-winning journalist Joan Lunden is hosting the show which premieres today at 8 p.m. on CBS.

"We’re very excited about it," said Lyman Orchards executive vice president John Lyman III. Lyman was just notified last week the show would be airing tonight. "It’s a key piece of the show."

Film crews with the show taped the scenes in one of the pick-your-own orchards off Powder Hill Road in October, Lyman said.

Lyman officials were contacted in the fall by network representatives stating the orchards at the intersection of routes 147 and 157 were one of a few potential sites for a reality show, he said.

"The script called for an orchard," Lyman said. "The producer grew up in West Hartford and picked apples with his family, and he was pitching for us."

It came to be Lyman Orchards was selected for the show.

"The wide alleyways (of the pick-your-own) appealed to them," Lyman said. "At the time it was filmed, it was not given a title."

Lyman, who watched all the filming take place, said it was exciting, but does not know how much may end up on the cutting room floor.

According to the CBS Web site, "Wickedly Perfect" will pit 12 people against each other competing for the crown on being the country’s "new authority on at-home living."

The contestants -- a majority of women -- will compete in different areas of beautifying the home and entertaining including party planning, gardening, cooking, baking, sewing, crafts, floral arranging and decorating, according to the Web site.

Each week a participant will be eliminated from the New England estate that was used, according to the Web site. Judges for the competition are chef and restaurateur Bobby Flay, Emmy Award-nominated stylist David Evangelista and best-selling author Candace Bushnell. For the winner, prizes include six appearances on CBS’ "The Early Show," a development deal for a lifestyle-oriented television show and a publishing deal with Atria Books, a division of Simon & Schuster.
