| | | | |
Kenneth D. Bucklin, CEO, will retire Dec. 31, 2004. Ken joined French-Reneker-Associates in 1983 as a project engineer and marketing director and was elected president of the firm in 1994. He served as President and CEO of the firm until this past February when John W. Meyer was elected President and Ken was appointed CEO.
Ken's retirement crowns his 42 year career as a Civil Engineer and Land Surveyor, which began with the Iowa State Highway Commission upon graduation from Iowa State University in 1962. During his tenure with the Highway Commission, he took a two year leave of absence to fulfill a military obligation as a platoon leader and commanding officer of a combat engineer company from 1963 to 1965. In 1968, he left the Iowa Highway Commission and became Appanoose County Engineer at Centerville where he was involved with the many changes necessitated by the construction of Rathbun Lake in the area. He served as Appanoose County Engineer until 1972 when he moved to Sigourney to become Keokuk County Engineer. He served in that capacity until joining French-Reneker-Associates in 1983. Throughout his career, he has been active in professional and civic organizations. He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Iowa Engineering Society, the National Society of Professional Engineers, the Consulting Engineer's Council of Iowa and the Society of Land Surveyors of Iowa. He has served as Board member and past president of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Iowa Engineering Society and the Consulting Engineers Council of Iowa. Ken and his wife, Beverly, live on a farm northwest of Sigourney where they will continue to reside during retirement. They have two daughters; Kimberly is a civil engineer and lives in Portland, Oregon and Jennifer, an elementary teacher, currently employed in management in a woman's apparel store, lives in West Des Moines. Ken has indicated that he does not feel that he will have any trouble staying busy after he retires and hopes to have more time for many activities which he enjoys, such as woodworking, photography, genealogy, boating and doing general maintenance on the farm. He also is heavily involved with many volunteer activities including the Iowa Transportation Museum, the Rathbun Lake Association, Sigourney Area Development Corporation and the Sigourney United Methodist Church. A retirement reception will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Wed., Dec. 29 at the Best Western Fairfield Inn.
