While Farmington (5-0) used its ground game to wear down the Raiders defense, it was a long strike through the air that keyed the Indians opening drive. Steve Harrington found Martin Jones on the right sideline for a 44-yard play that put Farmington on the Enfield two-yard line. Gerhart then scored on the next play on a sweep to the right to make it 7-0 with 6:30 to go in the quarter.
Enfield (0-6) moved the ball on its second possession, advancing to the Farmington nine behind the running of Patrick Jubrey and Jerry Moore. The Raiders went for it on a fourth down, but the Farmington defense held its ground and took over on downs.
Farmington wasted little time taking the ball the other way, with Fox gaining 71 yards on a run up the right side on the second play of the drive, which was capped by a 19-yard pass from Harrington to Gerhart, who stretched out to catch the ball in the right corner of the end zone.
The lead grew to 21-0 early in the second quarter when Harrington hit Gerhart again, this time for 18 yards up the right sideline with 10:04 left in the half. Fox was a force on Farmingtons next drive, its fourth consecutive scoring march, which went 96 yards on nine plays, including 37 from Fox on six carries, the last of which was a five-yard touchdown up the middle with 1:45 left in the half that made it 27-0.
"Thats because of that front line blocking," Bemis said. "Jimmys a tough kid and hell get tough yards for us, but we know he doesnt have the speed of a Nick Bliss, but hes a tough runner. He gets the hard yards and has good awareness of whats in front of him, and the line did a great job making holes for him."
The Indians scored twice in the third quarter before Enfield ran a play from scrimmage. Fox broke a 53-yard run on Farmingtons first play of the half, setting up Mike Peltier from two yards out to make it 34-0. Shaun Murray recovered a fumble on the ensuing kickoff and ran it back 27 yards, and the two-point conversion from Harrington to Gerhart gave Farmington a 42-0 lead with 10:38 left in the third quarter.
Harrington hit R.J. Simeone for a 35-yard score early in the fourth, and Ryan Dunn made a 27-yard field goal to complete the scoring.
"We threw alot of different passes tonight," Bemis said. "(Harrington) threw the ball on a dime for us tonight."
The Indians now must prepare for an NWC showdown with 6-0 Berlin in Farmington next week.
"Were taking things game by game," Bemis said. "Well compete, and it should be a great game."
