WILL COACH AT OLYMPICS THIS TIME
Kip Janvrin, Panora native, went to the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Australia as a decathlete. In 2004 he is going to Athens, Greece as a coach.
Janvrin will be one of two coaches for decathlete Tom Pappas who is ranked No. 1 in the U.S. and No. 2 in the world. The other coach is Brian Brophy, a former decathlete.
The three of them have been training in Tennessee and Missouri the past two weeks. They will leave August 13 and fly to the island of Crete where they will stay until August 21. Crete is located south of Athens and is about a five hour trip by boat and about an hour by plane.
The decathlon competition will be August 23-24. When it ends, Janvrin will return to the U.S.
The former Olympian was in Panora for Panorama Days last weekend and competed in the 3-on-3 basketball tournament.
