Annapolis, Md. - Rising senior Patrick Rollo (Palos Verdes, Calif./Loyola) has been elected captain for the 2004 Navy men's water polo season. "Patrick is very deserving of this position," said 20th-year head water polo coach Mike Schofield, who led the Mids to their 11th NCAA tournament appearance last season. "He has been one of our leaders in and out of the pool for the past three years. Patrick leads by example. He consistently outworks everyone, raising the bar in terms of work rate, and he gets the other players on the team to follow suit." Rollo has been a consistent contributor to the Navy offense throughout his first three years, totaling 85 career goals from his driver position. He has increased his scoring total in each of his first three seasons, culminating with a career-best 38 goals as a junior. Rollo was rewarded for his play last year with his first selection to the Collegiate Water Polo Association Southern Division Second Team. In addition, he earned a spot on the All-East Second Team after tallying two goals, an assist and two steals in the final game of the Eastern Championship, a victory over Princeton which secured Navy's bid to the NCAA Tournament. Navy posted a 25-8 record last season while winning its sixth Eastern Championship. The Mids advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the 11th time in school history, dropping games to eventual national champion USC (10-6) and Loyola Marymount (10-7). The Midshipmen open the 2004 season with the 11th annual Navy Open on Sept. 4 to 5.
