Navy College DLP
The Navy College Program Distance Learning Partnership (NCPDLP) is a Navy partnership with colleges and universities across the U.S. The partnership schools offer rating-related degrees via distance learning to Sailors everywhere. The partnership colleges provide rating related associates and bachelors degrees while making maximum use of SMART credit. The program allows students to complete course requirements through Distance Learning so that Sailors can earn degrees anywhere in the world. Courses are offered in a variety of formats including CD-ROM, videotape, paper, or over the Internet. Contact NCO or check out the web site at https://www.navycollege.navy.mil.

Get your courses entered on SMART
The Navy College Center and the SMART programmers have added a new feature to the SMART transcript. Any courses that Sailors completed while on active duty but were not funded by TA or NCPACE may be placed on SMART. Bring NCO a clean copy of your transcript or grade report and we'll handle it from there. If you would rather send it yourself, mail a certified to be true copy, or notarized copy of your transcript to Navy College Center, NETPDTC N2A5, 6490 Saufley Field Road, Pensacola, FL, 32509-5204. Include service member contact information such as phone number or e-mail address.

Two majors better than one?
Colleges report that more students are committing themselves to two or more undergraduate majors. Universities such as UCLA and MIT report massive jumps in the number of students with at least two majors. Students with multiple majors claim it makes them more marketable when finding a job after college; they also claim that having multiple majors makes going to college more interesting and challenging. Career experts differ on whether multiple majors are a help or hindrance. Some experts argue that multiple majors don't necessarily lead to better job prospects and professors worry that students are overextending themselves. Some institutions like MIT have placed restrictions on the number of majors a student may have; MIT has banned triple majors. As more students pack their schedules with extra courses, some professors believe that students with multiple majors may be focusing too little on any one major, resulting in not studying any of their majors with sufficient depth.

A quick way to get fired...
And we're not talking about making a bad cup of coffee (that's only a crime in the Navy!). We're talking about employees with dubious academic credentials from schools that are not properly accredited. There seems to be an epidemic of employees using improper or bogus credentials to build careers in both the private and public sectors. Buying your Ph.D. for $500 or earning a degree from a non-accredited university seems like a great idea - up until the moment your employer finds out. ASNE scholarship
The American Society of Naval Engineers (ASNE) sponsors a scholarship program to encourage students to enter the field of naval engineering and to provide support to naval engineers seeking advanced education in the field. http://www.navalengineers.org/Programs/Scholarships/sc_info.htm. Student aid application online
Students interested in Federal Financial Aid are encouraged to apply online. Filling out the online version of the free application For Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) has many advantages over the traditional paper format. Electronic applications are processed faster and students' answers to questions are checked before it's submitted; this cuts down on processing delays. The online application doesn't require any special software and the program works with standard browsers. http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/

Get your TA now!
You should get your Tuition Assistance (TA) application processed before the start of your spring classes. Download a TA form from the NCO web site at https://www.navycollege.navy.mil. Be sure you download both the front and back pages. Sign and date both the front side AND the back side of the TA form.

Hey officers, how would you like...
...to enter a graduate program and receive 100 percent financial assistance (with a maximum of $40,000/degree, $20,000/FY) of graduate costs, including books and registration/application fees? If that appeals to you, check out the GEV Program! http://www.news.navy.mil/search/display.asp?story_id=10997
