GROTON, Conn. –The winners for Submarine Group 2 Sailor of Year, from left, Religious Programs Specialist First Class (SW/AW) Lyon Kennelly from Naval Submarine Support Center Norfolk; Machinist’s Mate First Class (SS) Bradley Albers from USS San Juan (SSN 751); Electrician’s Mate Second Class (SS) Samuel Ruiz from USS Newport News (SSN 750); and Machinist’s Mate Second Class (SS) Darnell Henson from Naval Submarine Torpedo Facility Yorktown pose with Submarine Group 2 Command Master Chief Rafael Perez and Chief of Staff Capt. Frank Lowery following their selection at an awards banquet, Jan. 28. These four Sailors will advance to the next level of competition, Junior and Sailor of the Year for Commander, Submarine Force.

GROTON, Conn. – Master at Arms Second Class Bryan Jones carries Military Working Dog, Molly, in a backpack up a ladder well on Naval Submarine Base New London, overlooking the water. Molly is a Springer Spaniel trained to detect illegal drugs; her small size makes her vital to working on submarines, able to maneuver tight areas with ease. Carrying Molly in a backpack allows her to traverse the steep ladder wells on ships and submarines.
