GROTON, Conn. - Nicholas Lindholl, Zach Parsons, and Evan Cox serve Frank Bittner, retired Sonar Technician First Class, at the Veterans Appreciation brunch held at the Naval Submarine Base New London (SUBASE) Youth Center, Nov. 7. Children from the Youth Center provided food and greeted veterans to show appreciation for their service.

The SUBVETS Veterans Day celebration paid homage to veterans of the submarine force that have served the nation in peace and during war. Rear Admiral (Select) Richard P. Breckenridge, Deputy Director, Submarine Warfare Division (N87B) was the guest speaker for the event.

NEW YORK, New York - MA2 Shiela McLean and Bak of Naval Submarine Base New London’s security department take time to pose for a photo during their two-week tenure in New York, last Saturday during USS New York’s (LPD 21) formal commissioning ceremony at Pier 88. One of three military working dog teams from Commander Navy Region Mid Atlantic, they provided support to help detect bombs and other explosives to help safeguard the newly commissioned ship during her visit to the “Big Apple.” During the rest of her visit she will be berthed on Manhattan’s 12th Avenue at W. 48th Street until Nov. 11, and is open to the public for tours. For more information, visit the Web site http://www.ussny.org/.

Help the environment - reduce, reuse, recycle
GROTON, Conn. - Electricians Mate Third Class Benjamin Holmes and Electronics Technician Third Class Alexander Lockman dump paper from their office into a brown receptacle to be recycled. There are 34 of these containers on SUBASE for collection of paper and paper materials. There are 18 blue receptacles on base as well for cans and bottles. Be sure to dump your recyclables in the correct containers!
