Newington honors veterans during ceremony

Veterans Day was a solemn occasion at Town Hall last week, as wreaths and roses were placed at the monument to the 28 Newington residents who have given their lives in service to their country.

After 30 years of working in New York City, Lynn Barnes retired to Newington to be near her daughter. Although she grew up in New Britain, after all that time she no longer knew anyone in the area.

Postponed TPZ hearing continues Monday
A Town Plan and Zoning Commission public hearing that had to be postponed last week due to an overflow crowd will be continued Monday, Nov. 23, at 7 p.m., in the Helen Nelson Room (Conference Room B&C) at Town Hall.

Overflow crowd forces TPZ to postpone hearing
A public hearing at a Town Plan and Zoning Commission (TPZ) meeting this week drew such a large crowd the commission was forced to postpone the hearing for two weeks. TPZ Chairperson Cathleen Hall said she would seek a large enough venue to accommodate everyone for the hearing.

Guard members head to Afghanistan, Iraq
HARTFORD - Jose Irizarry, of Terryville, was deployed Wednesday for the first time. Daniel Parreira, of Newington, was deployed for the second. Members of the Connecticut Army National Guard, these men are just two of the 700 Connecticut soldiers being sent to Iraq and Afghanistan in the single largest deployment of these troops since the Korean War.
