Senior Center in Newtown Offers
AARP Driving Course

NEWTOWN - The AARP will present its driver safety program from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, November 19 and 20, at the Newtown Senior Center.

This course is a refresher geared toward the safety needs of seniors. The course includes information on aggressive drivers, anti-lock brakes, car phones and more.

Heart Center Class at Center
SOUTHBURY - The Heart Center of Greater Waterbury will present the next installment in its series, You Are What You Eat, at 1:30 p.m. Friday, November 20, at the Southbury Senior Center.

The program will cover complications of diabetes, including heart, kidney and eye disease.

The purpose of the class is to provide the education necessary to recognize symptoms and understand the pathophysiology, metabolic syndrome and factors associated with the development of diabetes.

Monroe Center Plans Trip to UConn Game
MONROE - The Monroe Senior Center offers a trip on January 2, 2010, to watch the UConn women's basketball team play Seton Hall.

The center hosts an open house from 1 to 4 p.m. Sundays.

The center is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Center Offers Tree Festival Trip
OXFORD - The Oxford Senior Center is offering trip to the Wadsworth Athenaeum Museum to see the Festival of Trees on Thursday, December 10.

A bus will depart at 9:30 a.m. Admission is $10. Those attending may purchase lunch at the Russell Cafe located in the museum.

The bus will arrive back in Oxford about 3 p.m.

Roxbury Center's Programs Detailed
ROXBURY - The Roxbury Senior Center hosts John Irwin of Software Matters LLC, Technology Management of Roxbury, to assist seniors in developing basic computer skills from 10:30 a.m. to noon Fridays.

This help is offered at no charge for computer novices, and will focus on computer fundamentals with hands-on instruction. Seniors will learn how to turn the computer on and off; use the mouse; open and close programs and files; and use the Internet, e-mail and Microsoft Word.

HALLOWEEN PIANO RECITAL -

Cassia Verzello and Nancy McMillan's piano students participated in a Halloween piano recital at the River Glen Health Care Center.

The students of the Cassia Verzello Piano Studio in Southbury dressed up in Halloween costumes and played the piano, for the viewing and listening pleasure of the residents.

Seymour Senior Program Told
SEYMOUR - The Seymour Senior Center will be closed Wednesday and Thursday, November 25 and 26, for the Thanksgiving holiday.

The Seymour Christmas parade takes place at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 28.

In case of inclement weather, the parade will take place Sunday, November 29.

BRIDGEWATER - The Bridgewater Senior Center will be closed for the Thanksgiving holiday, Thursday and Friday, November 26 and 27.

Cooking Class Set Friday at Center
MIDDLEBURY - The Middlebury Senior Center will host Marianne DeSilva for a new Adventures in Cooking Class from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday, November 20.

The class will feature fall's comfort foods, including a fennel and apple stuffed pork tenderloin that will be served with roasted asparagus with grated parmigiano reggiano cheese.

Dessert is baby sweet potato cakes with a caramel pecan sauce served with vanilla ice cream.

The cost is $10, which includes instruction and lunch. Reservations are required.
