| Local Students Receive Scholarships WEST HAVEN - Three area students attending the University of New Haven were awarded the Hershy-Frey Scholarship for the 2009-2010 academic year,.The three are Kimberly M. Harman of Naugatuck, a sophomore majoring in information technology; Matthew R. Vayda of Seymour, a junior majoring in information technology; and James E. Williamson of Seymour, a sophomore majoring in mechanical engineering. A luncheon in honor of the 2009-10 UNH Endowed Scholarship donors and recipients took place in October. More than 35 donors attended, accompanied by the more than 150 students who had been awarded scholarships.

TORRINGTON-WASHINGTON - The After School Arts Program will offer two music programs this winter.The Inter-District Singing Project, lead by Thomasina Levy and Victoria Christgau, will collaborate with students grades 3 through 12 from Waterbury, Torrington, Warren and Region 12 to compose a song using improvisation, traditional vocal techniques and original poetry. Each region's students will meet separately for three weekly sessions beginning Monday, November 30. Full Story

| Resident Participates in State Pageant BETHLEHEM - Francesca Simoncelli of Bethlehem has been selected to participate in the Miss Connecticut USA 2010 Pageant, taking place Saturday and Sunday, November 28 and 29, at the Marriott Hotel in Farmington.Ms. Simoncelli is the daughter of Susan Vaill of Bethlehem and Attorney George Simoncelli, Jr., of Litchfield. | Masuk Career Day Set for Friday MONROE - The annual Career Day program will take place from 8:09 to 10:34 a.m. Friday, November 20, at Masuk High School, 1014 Monroe Tpke.Approximately 600 students from all grade levels will attend the morning program. Students will attend according to scheduled classes. | Area Student in Macy's Parade SOUTHBURY - Jack Saleeby of Southbury has been selected to perform at the 83rd annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.Mr. Saleeby, 15, who attended Stagedoor Manor Performing Arts Training Center in Loch Sheldrake, N.Y., this summer, will join 60 fellow performers from that program in a first-ever singing/dancing finale for the famous parade. NEW PRESTON - A holiday performance by the Emmy Award-winning Wayne Martin Puppets of Santa's North Pole Express takes place at 10:30 a.m. and noon Saturday, November 28, at the Washington Montessori School, 240 Litchfield Tpke.The audience is invited to board the North Pole Express and meet a variety of Arctic characters, including Frosty, Rudolph, Elmer, Elf, Suzy Snowflake, Peter and Penelope Penguin, dancing candy canes and a juggling Christmas tree, which lights up and illuminates the way for the elf. | Hypnotism, Comedy Benefits GradNite SOUTHBURY - Pomperaug High School's GradNite 2010 will host hypnotist and comedian Jim Spinnato at 7 p.m. Monday, November 23, in the auditorium, 234 Judd Rd.Volunteers will sing, dance and release their comedic abilities all while under the influence of hypnosis. Tickets are $10 at the door, and all proceeds will benefit GradNite 2010.
