Southbury Ambulance Responds SOUTHBURY - The Southbury Ambulance Association responded to 140 patients in October, most during daytime hours, utilizing both ambulance crews, primarily staffed by volunteers.The SAA provided five mutual aid calls during that period. Suzanne Vetter was recognized by the association for 31 years of dedicated service.

Selectmen Request Funding for Housing Trust Project WASHINGTON - The Board of Selectmen voted at its Thursday, November 12, meeting to request $110,000 from the Board of Finance from the town's affordable housing fund for the Washington Community Housing Trust's proposed project on Mygatt Road.The request notes that $25,000 of that amount would be paid immediately and the remainder when a grant from the state Department of Economic and Community Development is approved. Town Withdraws Wetlands Application for Access Drive WOODBURY - The town's application for the construction of an access drive to a possible future location of the town garage at 82 White Deer Rocks Rd., was withdrawn, according to Inland Wetlands Agency Chairman Mary Tyrrell.Mrs. Tyrrell made the announcement at the Monday, November 9, Inland Wetlands Agency meeting. Board Told DPH Gives Historic Town Hall Clean Bill of Health WOODBURY - The Historic Town Hall is open for business as of Friday, November 13, said First Selectman Paul Hinckley at the Thursday, November 12, Board of Selectmen meeting.Mr. Hinckley said the Town Hall received a clean bill of health from the state Department of Public Health and is ready for use. He said there are some miscellaneous things that have to be done, including tightening up the second floor windows where heat can escape, waxing and buffering the floors, painting the shutters and fixing the exterior and interior lights. Residents Concerned About Zone Change OXFORD - An informal meeting arranged by Economic Development Director Herman Schuler in the hope of easing residents' minds about a proposed zone change on Oxford Road from residential to commercial may not have accomplished that goal.Residents who attended the November 12 session, about 15 of them, appeared unimpressed with a conceptual plan presented by Joseph Pereira of Pereira Engineering, Inc., and continued to express concerns about how the project would affect their privacy and well being. OXFORD - Candidates for the Board of Selectmen each received a higher number of votes in a recount conducted on Monday, November 9, but the outcome of the November 3 election remained unchanged. Republican David Yish and Democrat David McKane received the second and third highest number of votes respectively for that office and, together with First Selectman Mary Ann Drayton-Rogers, now comprise the town's Board of Selectmen. Region 14 School Board Okays Energy Education Contract BETHLEHEM-WOODBURY - A proposed timeline for the Nonnewaug High School building project was handed out at the Monday, November 9, Region 14 Board of Education meeting.According to the draft minutes from the meeting, Director of Finance and Operations Jay Hubelbank said a suggested referendum date on the NHS building project is October 19, 2010. OAA, School Board Approve Contract OXFORD - The Board of Education and the Oxford Education Association recently approved a two-year contract that provides for a zero increase in salary and no step movement the first year. Woodbury Scholarship Fund Begins Fund Raising Appeal WOODBURY - The Woodbury Scholarship Fund raised more than $80,000 this year to assist 70 students in pursuing higher education.These scholarships are made possible by many Woodbury residents, through gifts and bequests, as well as matching funds and endowments. Village Ambulance Makes Report SOUTHBURY - Heritage Village Ambulance Association's class for medical response technicians will end on Wednesday, November 25. Six candidates are preparing to graduate, pass their certification test and begin riding as volunteers on the local ambulance.
