The Southbury Library's Coffee Table/Holiday Book Sale is in progress during regular library hours through December 6.

Sale tables are located behind the staircase near the main entrance to the library.


'Run for a Cure' Slated for Holiday
ROXBURY - Jeff Sheldon posted his 19th triumph of the year at the weekly Roxbury Road Race Series by annexing the First National Bank of Litchfield/Bob Lewis Mid-Autumn Championship over a 3.95-mile course in 24-minutes, 2-seconds, a 6:05-per-mile pace.

Mr. Sheldon, 29, of Southbury, and Nora Hulton, 46, of Cornwall Bridge, who captured the female division with a clocking of 31:41 to finish nineteenth overall, each received a $10 gift certificate to a local sporting goods store.

NUMC Sets Pasta Dinner
NEWTOWN - The Newtown United Methodist Church will host a pasta dinner from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, December 5, at its location, 92 Church Hill Rd.

The church is entering its 20th year of providing family-style dinners for the surrounding communities. The menu includes fruit cup; salad with choice of dressing; garlic bread; pasta with meatless, mild or spicy sauce; a dessert bar; and coffee.

Free Thanksgiving Meal Offered
ANSONIA - Pilgrim Bar-B-Que will again sponsor a free dinner for valley and area residents in need, from 2 to 4 p.m. Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 26, at the La Rosina Room, 259 E. Main St.

Hurd House Open Thanksgiving
WOODBURY - The Hurd House will be open from 10 a.m. to noon, Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 26, 25 Hollow Rd.

Hot cider and donuts will be served around the fireplace, and Woodbury Historical Society volunteers will discuss the meaning of Thanksgiving during the free event.

The Old Woodbury Historical Society's District 2 Schoolhouse on Main Street and Hurd House will be open for the town's Christmas Festival, which is scheduled from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, December 5.


Dinner Served
WASHINGTON - The Judea Nursery School will host a Lasagna Dinner from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Saturday, November 21, in Wersebe Hall, across from the Congregational Church at 6 Kirby Rd.

Volunteer Quilters Sought
WOODBURY - Linda Siano, chairperson for Quilts for Kids, is seeking volunteers to make quilts for the Children's Hospital in Hartford.

Quilts for Kids was founded in August 2000 in Philadelphia by Linda Ayre, an interior designer. She noted that discontinued designer fabrics were being discarded and she found people in the community to make crib-size patchwork quilts for seriously ill and abused children.

Friends of the Library in Oxford is hosting its annual Holiday Raffle to raise money for the library building fund.

SOUTHBURY - The merchants of the Southbury Plaza have teamed up with Southbury Police to organize a toy drive to benefit children in need.

Police officers plan to be on hand for most of the day Friday, November 27, in front of the Plaza's Kmart store to collect new, unwrapped toys.

Their goal is to fill their cruisers with enough toys so that every local child has presents to open on Christmas morning.

Holiday House Tour Slated in Woodbury
WOODBURY - The Woman's Club of Woodbury will present its 15th annual Holiday House Tour, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, December 12. The snow date is Sunday, December 13.

This year's tour will feature four homes dating back to the 18th and 19th centuries and two homes more recently built in the Colonial style. Most have many beautiful antiques and all will be decorated for the holidays.

An added bonus this year will be a stop at a farm winery.
