WATERTOWN - The Palmer Family, volunteer puppy raisers for Guiding Eyes for the Blind, is celebrating their puppy's graduation as a full-fledged guide dog. Orchid, a yellow Labrador Retriever, became a member of the Palmer Family at eight weeks of age and is now fully trained to be part of a Guiding Eyes team.Primary raiser of Orchid, Day Palmer, said, "As a child I read a book about a blind person who finally received a dog and the difference it made. Guiding Eyes Puppy Raising Program is wonderful. I can't say enough about it! I love to do public relations events because people are always so interested." Full Story 
| Kane recognized for support of environment HARTFORD - State Senator Rob Kane (R-32) earned 91% on the Connecticut League of Conservation Voters' 2009 Scorecard for his support of legislation singled out by the pro-environment organization this year."I strongly believe that we have a responsibility to be good stewards of our natural resources, and I am grateful for the Connecticut League of Conservation Voters' recognition of my support for pro-environment legislation," said Sen. | Independent Party seeking candidates for commissions WATERTOWN - The Watertown-Oakville Independent Party, having won three seats on the Town Council, is now the newly elected minority party. As such, it will need to fill some board and commission positions that will become vacant in January. As promised in its platform, the Independent Party stated it wants to fill these positions with the most qualified individuals, regardless of party affiliation. Full Story 
| BOE to recognize Rowan on November 23 WATERTOWN - The Watertown Board of Education will recognize Watertown's Teacher of the Year 2010, Ms. Nancy Rowan, and the nominees, at its regular meeting to be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Monday, November 23, at the Watertown High School Lecture Hall.The nominees were: Ms. Chryll Beliveau, Ms. Rosemary Brown, Ms. Ashley Coon, Ms. Christine Govertsten, Mr. Thomas Hogrefe, Ms. Donna Cincogrono, Ms. Mary Lou Kuegler, Ms. Alisha Lyons, Ms. Mary Jane Miller, Mr. Matthew Saccoman and Ms. Janet Sweetland. A small reception will be held just prior to the meeting and will begin at 7 p.m. Refreshments will be served. The public is invited to attend.
