Letters to the Editor
Republicans coming out of their caves:
It is good to see the Tea Baggers and Congressional Republicans emerge from caves and hiding under rocks during the 12 years of their congressional majority and eight years of President Bush's tenure. They can resume their role as pseudo-conservatives.

Question about lake water terminology:
Your Nov. 4th issue reported on a meeting that was held in Eau Claire regarding the reason that the lake study was not funded.

Extremists have no place in country:
In regard to Nov. 11th editorial, I have no problem with other people's religious beliefs. I'll respect their beliefs if they respect mine and others'.
The problem is the extremists in the Moslem religions; they respect no one, not even each other. If you put religion before country or country before religion, you are not one of us.

Editorial a thought-provoking read:
To whomever on your staff wrote this week's editorial "Do we not bleed?" I wish to say great work. It was so well-written, intelligent and thought-provoking that I would give it high marks were it in a competition where I was a judge.

Hangars leases need to be investigated
(Editor's note: This letter to the editor is in response to letters addressed to Mrs. Kennelly in the Nov. 11 Chetek Alert.)
Full Story

Some straight facts on the airport:
I usually don't respond to letters to the editor, but I feel some untruths and omitted facts made by Ms. Kennelly need to be corrected. Especially since I was mentioned by name.

Airport provides a benefit to area:
Having spent nearly 27 years of my life flying airplanes in the Chetek area and North America for pleasure and professionally, I have concluded that flying is a tremendous career, business tool, educational tool, benefit for medical emergencies and hobby. I do not own a hangar or base an aircraft at Chetek.
Full Story

Airport draws many to community:
This is in response to Mrs. Kennelly's letter regarding the Chetek airport. Mrs. Kennelly states that the current lease fees for the hangars are $92.50 annually, "which is outrageous considering that people are paying $40-$50/month just to store a pontoon for the winter."

Buckets for Hunger matches donations:
I would like to take a minute and tell you a little bit about who is using the Chetek Food Shelf. Our year runs from Sept. 30, 2008, to Oct. 1, 2009. At the Chetek Food Shelf, we feed people from New Auburn and Chetek. This is done to keep people from traveling to other food shelves as other towns have their own.

Club's Halloween contribution a treat:
Our Chetek High School Spanish Club should be commended for their contribution to this year's community Halloween party.
Full Story

City should increase hangar fees:
My husband and I attended the city council meeting Oct. 13. We were two of four people in attendance.
Full Story

School article, letter to editor laughable:
After picking myself off the floor from laughing so hard after reading the letter to the editor "Heat on school, Brown undeserved" in the Oct. 28 issue of The Chetek Alert, I somehow regained enough composure to put my thoughts down on paper.
Full Story

Favre wound too fresh for forgiving:
Well, it's over-all the hype and media frenzy surrounding Brett Favre's return to Green Bay is behind us. Well, maybe.
Full Story

Heat on school, Brown undeserved:
Editor's note: This letter is in response to the Chetek Alert's Oct. 14 article "Chetek expels first student of year."
I was on the school board for a year and saw first-hand how our administrator, principals and teachers all work together for the good of the students. I was impressed by the good job they do.

Full Story

Consolidation will offer stability:
I was a member of the Chetek-Weyerhaeuser school consolidation study committee representing the Weyerhaeuser area. When the committee first met, I was concerned if there would be a good reason for Chetek to consolidate with us.
Full Story

More students, more state aid:
Senior citizens concerned about an increase in real estate taxes as a result of the proposed consolidation of Chetek and Weyerhaeuser school districts should consider this: If the referendum for consolidation doesn't pass, there most certainly will be a substantial increase in taxes.

All garbage should go to incinerator:
Fall is here with all the great smells of the season that come with it. A stroll through the woods or countryside can be really invigorating. A ride down a country road brings the smell of wood smoke coming from many chimneys, which can be very nice, unless they are burning household garbage.
Full Story

Weyerhaeuser reminded to vote:
I would like to remind all residents of the Weyerhaeuser School District to vote in the district referendum on Nov. 3.

Weyerhaeuser reminded to vote:
I would like to remind all residents of the Weyerhaeuser School District to vote in the district referendum on Nov. 3.

Vote 'yes' for kids and consolidation:
The consolidation of the Weyerhaeuser and Chetek school districts is a win-win for all. I live in Weyerhaeuser and work in both Weyerhaeuser and Chetek. I have many friends in both communities, and I really believe consolidating is the right thing to do, for all of us.
Full Story

Dollars and sense on voting 'yes':
We have invested large amounts of time weighing the pluses and minuses of consolidating the Weyerhaeuser and Chetek school districts. This letter addresses our view as Chetek parents and taxpayers. The Weyerhaeuser voters have different issues to consider, and we aren't pretending that we look at things from their shoes.

Chetek man outlines consolidation facts:
The upcoming referendum is very important financially to all of us in the Chetek School District. Here are the facts:
Full Story

Consolidation is the only answer:
Chetek currently has a declining student enrollment. A declining enrollment means less funding from the state. Less funding from the state means that either curriculum gets cut or taxes go up. If programming gets cut, studies show that enrollment declines and we end up in a vicious, downward spiral.
Full Story

Consolidation good for Chetek:
On Tuesday, Nov. 3, you will have an opportunity to vote on the consolidation of the Chetek and Weyerhaeuser schools. I am voting "yes" because the $11 million in incentive aid from the state will allow greater educational opportunities for our students.

BACC orchestra concert coming:
On Nov. 1 at 1 p.m., the St. Croix Valley Symphony Orchestra will be performing at the Barron Area Community Center. The time was changed because the NFL, without consulting the BACC schedule, changed the time of the Packer-Viking football game and hopefully the time change will not cause any confusion.

Extend first-time buyer tax credit:
Following the worst downturn in decades, housing is beginning to show signs of a fragile recovery. While the Midwest has fared better than some areas nationally, we are heading into a seasonal slowdown.

Organization urges consolidation vote:
C.A.R.T. sees its role in the area as one of looking out for the taxpayers of Barron County. As such, we would not take a position either pro or con on the issue of the Chetek-Weyerhaeuser School District consolidation.
