New million-dollar Cameron library, senior center is almost finished
Cameron’s new $1.2 million, 7,000-square-foot library and senior center was expected to open mid-November, but the new goal is to be operational by the end of the year. Despite being close to opening its doors, the project still needs more funding.
The Cameron Friends of the Library met with the library director to hear an update on the $1 million Cameron Area Library and Senior Center project and to learn how to help with upcoming events to raise the remaining $193,000.

Amanda Dalrymple, of Chetek, started making homemade soaps, salves and balms for her family about a year ago. Since then, she has started using her hobby as a way to educate the public and spread her knowledge of herbs and oils.

Food shelf has successful year
Leatrice Lindblad, of Chetek, (right) stopped in at the Chetek Food Shelf Monday to give a donation, which she tries to do every year. She said she chose this time of year because the Buckets for Hunger program will match a percentage of the donations.
The numbers are in for the Chetek Food Shelf's year, which ran from Sept. 30, 2008, to Oct. 1, 2009, and the year has been deemed a success.

Getting a phone call at 10:30 p.m. on a Saturday was something unexpected for Paul and Bobbi Smuda. Paul, the production manager at The Chetek Alert, and Bobbi, a medical transcriptionist, were about to become the adoptive parents of a baby boy, Liam Harry Smuda.
