Six Bulldogs named to all-conference
Five Chetek football players were named to all-conference for their rough ‘n’ ready ways on the field. Pictured, front, left to right, is Kreg Ziarnik and Morgan Neuman; and back, Jeremy Corder, Nick deWerd and Josh Amys.
Heart of the North all-conference teams for football and volleyball 2009 have been announced, and six Chetek High School students received the honor. Each of these Bulldogs helped their team in unique ways.

Christie Mountain perfect for snowboarding, skiing, tubing
Snowboarding is only one activity Christie Mountain in Bruce offers, but with the terrain parks it offers, it draws a large number of snowboarders each season.
Christie Mountain, although in rural Northwest Wisconsin, offers snowboarding, skiing and snow tubing to the public and attracts quite a crowd each season and the public is impressed.

Dawgs end season in blizzard
The 2009 Chetek Bulldog cross country season came to a close in singular fashion Friday afternoon at the WIAA sectionals at the Dodson Family Recreation Area northeast of Bruce. Conditions were miserable but memorable at the same time-I doubt any of those who ran will forget the day they ran in the blizzard.

Chetek handed tough, season-end loss
Chetek quarterback Gage Cahoon received the final snaps of the 2009 season from Lukas Marty in Thursday’s home game against Spooner. Cahoon completed the first touchdown pass of the season to Nick deWerd to score the Bulldog’s lone points.
Thursday night was the final game of the season for the Chetek Bulldog football team, and despite their efforts to end with a bang, the Spooner Rails took control of the game and walked away with a win.

Volleyball team ends season with dedication
The Chetek High School volleyball team had their regional game at Regis High School in Eau Claire Oct. 20. Despite Chetek sticking with their opponents, their season ended with a 3-0 loss.

Howard earns golds at Senior Olympics
George Howard, a 1962 Chetek High School graduate who currently lives in Menomonie, competed in the Wisconsin Senior Olympics Sept. 12 and earned golds in the squat and dead lift and a silver in the bench press. Inset is a medal he earned.
After being involved in active sports most of his life, a former Chetek resident started weight lifting and has found a new sport to enjoy and compete in. He took the competition to the Wisconsin Senior Olympics, where he earned three medals-two gold and one silver.

Chetek Bulldogs take down Barron Bears, 40-15
Josh Hodgson may have said hitting people was his favorite part of football, but he has also made a habit of scoring touchdowns. In Friday’s game at Barron, Hodgson scored three of the Bulldogs’ six touchdowns and had 14 carries for 145 yards.
With the 2009 high school football season coming to a close, the Chetek High School football team put on their white jerseys for the last away game of the year. The Bulldogs earned 40 points to beat the Barron Bears.

Bulldogs prepare for regionals
Chetek’s Brandi Thomas adjusted to each set to get the ball over the net in Thursday’s quadrangular at Bloomer. The home team Blackhawks Caitlyn Zeman, 8, and K’trina Ruff, 6, double blocked one of Thomas’ hits in the final game of the evening.
The Chetek High School volleyball team finished their last week of regular season play with a quadrangular in Bloomer with Ladysmith and Barron and a tournament in Osseo-Fairchild.

Chetek Chain O' Lakes fishing report
The leaf colors around the Chetek Chain of Lakes went from yellows and reds to dark greens from the pines and rusty tint colors from the maple and red oak leaves still hanging on to the tree limbs. It is still very picturesque and breathtaking as you fish the chain or just go for a boat ride while the weather is nice.
