No. 2 Vikings handle Bedford, 47-14
    By: 11/06/2009
Gunner Gilland of A-H-S-T (24) wards off a Bedford tackler.
A-H-S-T hosts Madrid in Friday's quarterfinals

AVOCA -- Another monster game by Seth Enke and company has the A-H-S-T football team just a game away from a trip to the UNI-Dome.

Led by Enke's four touchdown passes and two TD runs, the No. 2-ranked Vikings blitzed Bedford for the second time this season Monday night, winning 47-14 in a first-round playoff game held at Avoca. A-H-S-T also defeated the Bulldogs in Week 7 at Bedford, 40-14.

The Vikings (11-0) will now tangle with No. 5-ranked Madrid (10-1) in a Class A quarterfinal game Friday night (7:00 p.m.) in Avoca. A-H-S-T won at Madrid 42-41 in a non-district game on October 2. The two teams met twice last season as well, with the Vikings winning the regular season matchup and the Tigers taking the playoff rematch.

Madrid advanced to the quarterfinal round with an impressive 35-6 win over Treynor (9-2), whose only losses this year came at the hands of the Tigers and the District 8 champ Vikings.

Enke, A-H-S-T's elusive senior quarterback, ran the ball 17 times for 227 yards against Bedford and completed 9-of-18 passes for 192 yards. Hunter Nelsen (21, 57) and Gunner Gilland (23, 23) both caught two touchdown passes in the contest and finished with 120 and 72 receiving yards, respectively.

As a team, the Vikings compiled 502 total yards of offense, including 310 on the ground, while holding the Bulldogs to 188. A-H-S-T was penalized just twice in the game, did not turn the ball over and was never forced to punt.

Viking defensive leaders included linebacker Gabe Fell with 11 total tackles (10 solos) and a fumble recovery. Gilland made eight stops and Alex Long also pounced on a fumble.

A-H-S-T never trailed, scoring the first 20 points and leading 33-14 at the half. Fullback Dylan Zornes scored the only Viking touchdown that did not involve Enke and finished with 58 yards rushing.

Jordan Walston and Travis Dougherty both scored a touchdown for Bedford, which finished 7-4 overall.
