E. GREENBUSH--Goff Middle School eighth grader Danny Brin decided to raise money to support United Cerebral Palsy by juggling and riding a unicycle.

For a community service project in Amanda Gorman's Home and Careers class, Danny juggled and rode his unicycle--sometimes at the same time--for two hours on June 11 outside Wholly Cow Ice Cream and BBQ, Columbia Turnpike in Schodack.
While people enjoyed their ice cream and the show, they collectively donated $145 to the cause.
The open ended class assignment let students choose any type of a community service project. Danny says some of the classmates picked up litter along the road, others penned letters to soldiers serving in Iraq. In addition, each student had to research and write about the community service project they chose.
Before finding the ice cream spot, Danny was getting discouraged because he had trouble finding a place to put out his sign asking for donations.
"He was trying to get permission and approached a number of locally owned businesses, but was being turned down, or simply getting no response," said Sandy Brin, Danny's mother.
His father, R.J. Brin, added, "You wouldn't think it would be so hard to get permission just to do something good."
While driving home from another rejection, Danny and his parents decided to ask Bob Davis, owner of Wholly Cow Ice Cream and BBQ, if Danny could set up a sign and a small trunk for donations.
Mr. Davis whole-heartedly agreed. And as an extra bonus, invited 21-year old RPI student and part-time fire juggler Nick McClintock to join Danny, adding an extra layer of excitement.
"Danny came to me after having been turned down by a couple of other places and I was glad to help," said Mr. Davis. "He took me by surprise, his intentions were so heartfelt. I was proud to help him raise money for such a worthy cause. I think Danny is a hell of a role model, truly a class act."
About two years ago Danny started juggling and soon after, riding a unicycle. He even attended a summer circus camp. "It's an interesting hobby," he said "It keeps me occupied, it's different and challenging."
Danny says he chose to collect funds for UCP because "I think a lot of people don't really know what cerebral palsy is and more people should be educated about it."
