PINE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) - A town official says a man with a gun is holding a principal hostage at a New York high school, but police have him confined to one room and all the students are safe.

Pine Plains Town Supervisor Gregg Pulver tells CNN that police are in contact with the gunman at Stissing Mountain High School, about 90 miles north of New York City.
Pulver says the students "are safe at this point in time."
The school remains in lockdown.
State police and Dutchess County sheriffs deputies released no other information.
