S-O sends eight to districts-

Generals place second in 2A mat sectional

02/15/2009
While the Sibley-Ocheyedan Generals consider their second place finish at the Rock Valley Class 2A Sectional wrestling tournament last Saturday a minor setback, S-O head coach Doyle Naig remains optimistic about a team sending eight wrestlers to the district tournament Saturday in Cherokee.
"There weren't too many major upsets," said Naig. "We wrestled to most of our seeds. Sheldon had perhaps their best outing of the year, and wrestled above their seeds. Overall, this was just a minor road bump-we will get through it and make better young men from it. I like our chances next Saturday in Cherokee."

The Generals' 214 team points were narrowly beat by Sheldon/South O'Brien's 223 team points. But at the end of the day, three Generals-Steven Brockshus (130 pounds), Ted Kruger (152 pounds) and Brian Block (171 pounds) emerged as the champions of their respective weight classes and punched their ticket to the district tournament.       The Generals will also be sending runners-up Houston Hieronimus, Justin Truckenmiller, Julio Ayala, Jay Kruger and Kyle Trierweiler, with Naig heaping praise on Trierweiler in particular for his efforts. The 285-pound wrestler had a debilitating injury in last Tuesday's Siouxland Conference meet, but chose to wrestle anyway.
"Trierweiler gets the badge of courage," said Naig of his heavyweight. "He gutted it out big time. He has torn cartilage in his rib cage, and it is very painful, but he made it through anyway."
Individual results for the tournament are as follows, with each wrestler's final match listed.
