Hawks sweep Wildcats in three

09/21/2006
"Our all around team play improved quite a bit from the night before," Haack observed. "Were doing a better job mixing up our sets. Our timing is better and we're doing a better job placing serves. The girls have picked it up a notch."
Even so, the Hawks did get off to a bit of a slow start, trailing 5-1 in the opening game. Battling back, the Hawks turned the game into a thriller, which they won 26-24.
The second game was tight as well with neither team building a big lead. H-M-S trailed 13-12 when Whitney Waechter stepped to the serving. The junior ripped off seven straight points, giving H-M-S a 20-12 advantage. That was turned into a 25-16 win.
H-M-S started slowly in the third game as well, trailing 5-3, 8-6 and 10-7 when Kylah Otto's turn to serve came up in the rotation. She served the Hawks to a 13-10 lead then Camy Duis took over, stretching the margin to 18-11. The Hawks secured the match with a 25-15 win.
The squad put up solid numbers, converting 48 of 56 attacks with 21 kills and 64 of 73 serving chances with six aces. Whitney Waechter paced the team in both categories, counting 16 of 19 attacks with nine kills and converting 17 of 18 serves with one ace.
Emily Hegstad put 11 of 14 serves in play with one ace; Anna Jacobs nine of 11 with three aces; Kylah Otto nine of 11; Camy Duis eight of nine with one ace; and Jenny Otto eight of eight.
      K. Otto put down 11 of 12 attacks with four kills; Karissa Rozeboom eight of 11 with six kills; and Jacobs seven of eight with two kills; while Hegstad and Duis were both three of three. Jacobs was credited with nine assists while K. Otto had eight.
