09/11/2009
Candidates for H-M-S Homecoming king and queen were announced last week. They include, front from left: Alec Ahmann, Travis Taylor, Aaron Boll, Marcus Treimer and Nathan Walburg. Back: Kelsie Mills, Kayla Orthmann, Erin Monster, Aubrie Rozeboom and Hailey Waechter.

A full slate of activities are planned for next week with the theme "board games." Monday is jersey day. That afternoon the cross country team will run at West Lyon while the freshman and junior varsity football teams will play at Spirit Lake. Both events start at 5 p.m. Tuesday, costume day, features the Hawks' volleyball team, which will be hosting Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn. Match play begins at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday is class color day. Student council members will also participate in disability awareness day at the Clay County Fair.
Hip hop day is Thursday. At 6 p.m., that afternoon, the Homecoming parade will be held through downtown Hartley. Coronation will be held immediately following at the high school events center. If the parade is cancelled, the community pep rally and coronation will be held at 7 p.m., in the events center.
Friday is maroon and gold madness. Mini assemblies are planned for both the middle and elementary schools. The royalty will also visit local nursing homes in the morning. Kickoff for the Hawks' football game is at 7 p.m. At halftime, members of the royal court will be announced as well as winners from the week's activities. The annual Homecoming dance will follow the game from 10 p.m., until 12:30 a.m.
