Emilia Hibma, 74

      Funeral services for Emilia Hibma, 74, were held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, October 15, at the Christian Reformed Church, Ocheyedan, with Rev. Greg Dyk officiating. Interment was in Union Township Cemetery, Harris, with Andringa Funeral Home, Ocheyedan, in charge of arrangements. She died October 12, 2009.


      Emilia Hibma was born on December 12, 1934, in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of Rev. Bart and Hilda (Eason) Van Zyl. She lived her youth in Hollandale, Minn., and later moved to Newkirk, where she attended school and graduated from high school. She attended Northwestern College in Orange City, where she graduated with a teaching degree.
      She was married to Raymond Hibma of Harris, on June 14, 1956, at the Newkirk Reformed Church. They lived in rural Harris, where she taught school and helped with farming. Emilia also worked at the Lake Park Nursing Home for 15 years and at Sathers in Round Lake, Minn., until she retired at age 65.
      She was a member of the Christian Reformed Church in Ocheyedan, where she was active with Calvinettes (Gems), Ladies Aid and Bible study. She enjoyed helping with Trash for Cash and she also was involved with a Bible study in Round Lake, Minn., and a member of the Red Hat Society.
      Survivors are her children: Susan Rae Hibma of East Grand Forks, Minn.; Phil and Gail Himba of Harris, and their children: Jennifer, Sara, Jodi and Amanda; Mark and Cindy Hibma of Harris, and their children: Rebecca, Steven and Matthew; Rachel and Ken Van Eps of East Grand Forks, Minn., and their children: Lyndsey and husband Drew Leehan, Erin, Jaci and Bethany; David and Sandy Hibma of Lake Park, and their children: Brittany, Stacy, Anne and Sam; two brothers: Harold Van Zyl of Fort Meyers, Fla., and Ray and Marilyn Van Zyl of Stillwater, Minn.; two sisters-in-law: Bernice Van Zyl of St. Paul, Minn., and Nelva Cunningham of Colorado Springs, Colo.
      She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond; her parents; two brothers, George and Fred; one sister, Marian.
