      Funeral services for Velma Miers, 98, were held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, October 1, at Andringa Funeral Home Sheldon Funeral Service, Sheldon, with Rev. Dale Lint officiating. She died September 29, 2009.


      Velma Miers, the daughter of William and Emma (Marks) Miers, was born August 28, 1911, in Perry. She grew up and received her education at Mountain Lake, Minn. In her lifetime she lived in many areas including Mountain Lake, Minn. and Spencer, where she worked in a department store for many years, Ashton, Bentonville, Ark., and Noel, Miss. She and her father moved to Ashton in 1961 and lived with her sister, she moved to the Christian Retirement Home in Sheldon, where she lived for 19 years and Bee Hive Homes for almost two years, the remainder of her life was spent at Sanford Senior Care in Sheldon.
      She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Ashton.
      Survivors include two nieces: Marie Pomrenke and Marjorie Kannegieter.
      She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters: Sylvia Kannegieter and Violet Bomgaars.
