Funeral services for Erwin "Ervin" Schubert, 90, were held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 22, at the United Methodist Church, Harris, with Rev. Chris Ebbers officiating. Interment was in Ocheyedan Township Cemetery, with Walton-Roste Funeral Home, Sibley, in charge of arrangements. Erwin died January 17, 2007.
Erwin was born April 27, 1916, on a farm near Harris, the son of Henry and Johanna (Helkenn) Schubert. Erwin grew up on the farm and attended country school graduating from eighth grade. In 1948 Erwin was married to Lucy Heida. They made their home near Harris, until 1967 when they bought the home place near Ocheyedan and moved there with their family. Erwin was state plowing champion in 1965 and 1966. He was a seed corn/bean salesman for many years. For fourteen years, Erwin was a caregiver to his wife, Lucy. Erwin was a member of the Harris United Methodist Church and the Odd Fellows Lodge. He is survived by his daughter, LaDonna and her husband Steve Bosma of Ocheyedan; three grandsons: Christopher Bosma and wife Becky of Audubon; Thad Bosma and wife, Amy of Sioux Falls, S. Dak.; and Noah Bosma of Sioux Falls, S. Dak.; four great-grandchildren; one brother: Wayne Schubert of Sibley and one sister-in-law, Ruth Schubert of Lakefield, Minn. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Johanna; wife, Lucy; infant daughters: Faylene Beth and Cynthia Sue; one son, Terry Erwin; two brothers: Alvin and Dale Schubert and one sister, Elna Schubert.
