Arbor Day activities were held with third graders at Veblen, Britton and Langford schools last week Wednesday.
Craig Brown, District Forrester and Wanda Franzen, Conservation District Manager helped the students at each school plant a 6-7 foot American Linden tree. First Savings Bank of Veblen, Truss Pros at Britton and First State Bank of Claremont - Langford Branch donated the trees.
The tree at Veblen was planted in the schoolyard; Britton's was planted on the North side of the elementary school; and Langford's was planted at the football field. Each third grader received a Meyer Spruce tree to take home and plant.
Students and their teachers have been studying trees and the history of Arbor Day in their classrooms. An apple demonstration showing the Earth's cropland, Guess the Tree scent contest, and an "It's Arbor Day, Charlie Brown" video were presented to promote the importance of trees in our lives.
