**Gilbert Elsen
      Gilbert Elsen, 79, longtime Hecla area resident, died  Tuesday, October 27, 2009, at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo, ND.   Funeral arrangements are pending under the direction of the Price  Funeral Chapel of Britton.


**Guy Hart, Jr.
      The funeral for Guy L. "Bud" Hart, Jr., 87, was held Tuesday, October 27 at the Price Funeral Chapel of Britton.  The Reverend Terrill Sorensen officiated. 
      Burial with military honors will be 2 p.m. Monday, November 2 in the Los Gatos Memorial Park of San Jose, CA, under the direction of the Darling-Fisher Chapel of the Hills of Las Gatos, CA.
      He died Thursday, October 22, 2009 at the Marshall County Healthcare Center in Britton.
      Guy Lewis "Bud" Hart, Jr., was born January 15, 1922 at Ft. Pierre, to Guy Lewis and Edna (Lexau) Hart.  He grew up and attended school there.  After completing his education, Guy worked for a period of time with the Civilian Conservation Corps and helped to erect the look out tower that still stands at Harney Peak in the Black Hills.
      Guy answered the duty to serve his country in the U. S. Navy.  He was enlisted from January of 1945 to June of 1946, and served much of that time in the Pacific Ocean. 
      On September 13, 1941 he married Mildred Georgia Noble at Pierre.  The family lived in various places, and Bud worked at a number of different jobs.  For many years, he worked on a crew that built concrete grain elevators.  After moving to California, Bud worked in the dairy production industry, a job he continued after moving to New Ulm, MN.  Mildred died January 27, 1983.
      After his retirement in 1985, Bud lived in San Jose, Shingle Springs and Placerville, CA before moving to Langford a couple of years ago. 
      Bud was a member of the American Legion and the United Methodist Church while living in California. He was a radio controlled airplane enthusiast.  Just a few days before his death, Bud made a trip to Washington D.C. on an Honor Flight. 
      Survivors include; seven children: Sherrie (Rex) Milligan, Ione, CA; Connie (Marv) Piotter, Sisseton; Ken (Barb) Hart, Ramona, Shirley (Rolin) Nething, Dassel, MN, Pat (Rich) Rauch, Langford, Shelley (Fred) Philley, Ripon, CA, Dawn (Ken) Towner, San Francisco, CA; two brothers: Norm Hart, Pennsylvania and Jerry Hart, California; a sister, Rosemary Parmenter, California; 32 grandchildren; and an ever increasing number of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
      He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, five children and nine siblings.

**Christine Thelen
      Christine (Babe) Viola Gudren Thelen, 98, died October 25, 2009, in Atoka, OK.
      Her funeral will be Saturday, October 31 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Houghton. Burial will take place in the Houghton Cemetery following the service.
      Christine was born May 12, 1911, in Leal, ND, to Soren Christian Sorensen and Isabelle Hanna (Yde) Sorensen. She graduated from high school in Dazey, ND, in 1930, did a short course at college that summer, and began a teaching career, which spanned 41 years. She taught 10 years in rural, one-room schools in North Dakota.
      She married Lorenz Jakob (Fritz) Thelen June 20, 1940, in Walum, ND. Christine and Fritz made their home and farmed in the Houghton area. After getting hailed out in 1947, Babe went back to teaching and pursuing her college degree during the summers. She graduated from Northern State College, Aberdeen in 1967. She taught a total of 31 years in South Dakota, many of them in rural schools.
      She retired from the Britton school system in 1978 and spent summers in Britton and wintering near her family in the Desert Southwest, mostly in Deming, NM. She has lived the last four years with her son and daughter-in-law.
      She is survived by her sister, Ferne Carter, Caliente, NV, her son, Lorenz Thelen, Atoka, OK, four grandchildren and five great-granddaughters.
      She was preceded in death by her husband, a brother a sister and several half-brothers and sisters.
      Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or the charity of one's choice. No flowers, please.


**Maybelle Langager
      Maybelle Langager, 88, died October 16, 2009 at Spring River Christian Village, Joplin, MO.
      Burial will be at a later date in Langford Cemetery.
      Maybelle Sandve was born March 7, 1921 to Tom and Helen (Larson) Sandve, Langford. She was baptized and confirmed at Falnes Lutheran Church She graduated from high school and received a teaching degree from Northern State University, Aberdeen.
      She married Clarence Langager August 20, 1940. Over the years they lived in Seattle, WA, Aberdeen, Webster and in 1989 made their home in Joplin, MO.
      Survivors include three sons, Loren (Charlene), Pine City, MN, Craig (Sarah), Bellingham, WA, Curtis (Susan) Lake Stevens, WA and a daughter Lana (Gary) Nelson, Joplin, MO; two sisters Hazel Swenson, Aberdeen, and Delores Torguson, Willmar, MN; one brother, Tamlin Sandve, Langford; sister-in-law Ester Sandve, Webster; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
      She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and five brothers.


**Doris Loe
      Doris Loe, 93, Pierpont died Sunday, October 18, 2009 at her home.
      Funeral services were held Friday, October 23 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Pierpont, Paul Kosel, S.A.M. officiated.
      Burial was at Pierpont under the direction of Fiskdal Funeral Service, Webster.
      Doris Arlowene Dwight was born Saturday, August 5, 1916 to Clinton and Irene (Lemmon) Dwight on the farm of her grandparents, William and Laura Lemmon east of Pierpont.  She was baptized in the Baptist Church in Aberdeen.  She attended grade school in North Andover Township and graduated from Pierpont High School in 1933.  After high school she worked as a linotype operator for her uncle who was publisher of the Pierpont Signal.  After the newspaper was sold she followed the machine and continued as operator in Britton until the fall of 1935.  In 1936 she moved to Tacoma, WA where she worked at Tacoma General Hospital.  In 1939 she moved to Minneapolis, MN where her future husband, Wally, was living and worked in a café waiting on tables.
      On April 27, 1941 she was united in marriage to Wallace Loe at her grandparents home near Pierpont.  After their marriage the couple continued to live in Minneapolis.  In 1948 they returned to Pierpont where they operated a John Deere Implement Dealership where she worked part-time as a bookkeeper.  In 1970 they sold the business and she retired.  They spent time during the summer months at their cabin on Pickerel Lake and the winter months traveling in the southern states including Arizona and California but always kept their home in Pierpont.  They traveled extensively including many trips abroad.
      She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Pierpont where she was a member of the Ladies Aide and Circle.  She also belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary.  Doris enjoyed reading, crocheting, fishing and kept a diary while on their many trips.
Survivors include her husband of Pierpont, one sister, Mildred (Bill) Perrenoud, Sun City, AZ; and a nephew, Mike (Yoshie) Babcock, Wayzata, MN. 
      She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and two sisters.
