Obits: Osness, & Palm

**Leora "Orie" Palm
      Funeral services for Leora "Orie" Palm, 86, Watertown, formerly Wallace, was held Tuesday, September 29 in the Crawford Funeral Chapel, Watertown. Music was provided by Peggy Biswell, organist, and Leroy Mack, soloist.
      Burial was in Telemarken Cemetery, rural Wallace. Honorary pallbearers were all of Orie's grandchildren. Active pallbearers were Jeff Elmore, Leroy Mack, Andy Mikkelsen, Dan Hanson, Derek Maas, and Leon Mack.
      Orie died Friday, September 25, 2009 at a care center in Watertown.
      Orie was born August 20, 1923, in Johnson, NE to John and Wilhelmina (Rademacher) Yelkin. She attended school in Newark and Britton, SD. Orie started working outside the home at twelve years of age as a hired girl. She met Paul Palm when they were both working for the same family.
      On September 27, 1941, Orie married Paul Palm in Moorhead, MN. The couple lived in Britton for awhile and then moved to Wallace in 1953. The couple lived in Wallace until they moved to Watertown in 2001.
      Orie was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church and a member of the Wallace School Board for several years. Orie enjoyed quilting, sewing, crocheting, and was a member of the Hobby Club. She also enjoyed being around people and visiting with them. Orie especially loved being with her grandchildren.
      Survivors include; four children: Lyonne Hanson, Watertown, Dolores (Gary) Maas, Zimmerman, MN, Paula (Leon) Mack, Watertown, and Pat (Steve) Mikkelsen, Agar; 18 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Dorothy Yelkin, Britton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, three brothers and three sisters.

**Agnes Osness
      The funeral for Agnes Osness, 99, Britton, formerly of Langford, was held today, Wednesday, September 30 at the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Langford.  Rev. Charlie Bunk officiated. Music was provided by Barb Bunk, organist and Terry Price, soloist. 
      Burial was in the Hillside Cemetery, Langford.
      Arrangements were under the direction of the Price Funeral Chapel of Britton.
      Casketbearers were Don Wagner, Kent Chapin, Mark Osness, Brent Hoska, Jim Olson, and Russ Beadle.
      She died Friday, September 25, 2009, at Wheatcrest Hills in Britton.  
      Agnes Holland was born on the family farm near Langford, South Dakota to Jens and Bertine (Pederson) Holland.  As a youngster, she grew up there and attended country school.  In addition to learning her 'Three R's' Agnes also had to learn English, as her family only spoke Norwegian at home.
      On December 14, 1928, she married Melvin Jalmer Osness.  They lived and farmed in the Langford area for a number of years, and also briefly in the Andover area.  In the early 1950's, the family moved to Langford.  Agnes was the head cook at the Langford School for over 20 years.  Melvin died June 17, 1983 and Agnes continued to make her home in Langford until moving to Spruce Court Assisted living and then Wheatcrest Hills Nursing Home in Britton.
      Agnes was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Langford and had been active in the ladies organization and circle groups.  She enjoyed singing in the church choir.  Agnes had also belonged to the Langford Senior Citizens.  She enjoyed sewing, playing cards and games. 
      Survivors include; two sons: Robert (Joyce) Osness, Mina Lake, Orlyn (Phyllis) Osness, Langford; a daughter-in-law, Marlys Osness, Lake City; 15 grandchildren; a large number of great-grandchildren and an ever-increasing number of great-great- grandchildren.
      Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, two sons, an infant daughter; two brothers and a sister.
