**VIVIAN LARSON
      Vivian (Luther) Larson, 82, longtime Langford resident, died July 7, 2009 at Avera St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen. Arrangements are pending. Online obituary and guestbook available at www.pricefuneralchapel.net.


**IDA HEMEN
      Mass of Christian Burial for Ida Hemen, 83, will be 11 a.m. Thursday, July 9 at St. John de Britto Catholic Church in Britton, with Fr. John Brophy, celebrant. Music for the funeral will be provided by her daughter, Cosette Hemen.
      Casketbearers will be her grandchildren: Tracy Busche, Travis Hemen, Chris Hemen, Carrie Hemen, Andrew Gilbert, Jeffery Gilbert, Timothy Gilbert, Haley Hemen, Christin Hemen, Joshua Hemen, Brian Hemen and Nicholas Hemen.
      Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the church with a 7 p.m. Vigil Service.
      Ida died Sunday, July 5, 2009 at the Marshall County Healthcare Center in Britton.
      Ida Gilles was born November 21, 1925 at Albany, MN to Joseph and Kathryn (Eggerman) Gilles. As an infant, she moved with her family to Britton where she grew up and attended school. She graduated from Britton High School in 1943. Ida entered nurses training at Presentation College in Aberdeen. Part of her training was completed in the Army Cadet Corps during WW II. She graduated from Presentation in 1946, and began working as a Registered Nurse.
      On January 7, 1947 she married Vance L. Hemen. They made their home on a farm near Britton. Ida worked as a nurse at the local hospital, and also the Marshall Manor. She continued her nursing career until retiring in the mid 1970's. Vance died April 5, 1995 and Ida continued to make her home in Britton.
      Ida was a member of St. John de Britto Catholic Church and had been active in the Altar Society. She also had belonged to an extension club and was part of a ladies bowling league. In 1985, Ida was selected as the Volunteer of the Year for the Headstart Program from Marshall County. In her days on the farm, she always raised and tended a large garden, and canned its produce. She also was proud to participate in the Relay for Life every year since her diagnosis of cancer.
      Her hands were always busy, especially with yarn. She had demonstrated the art of spinning wool into yarn at Ft. Sisseton many times, and always put that yarn to good use in her many knitting projects. For many years she knit a pair of mittens for each student in the third grade class her daughter taught in Rapid City.
      Survivors include; her six children: Dan (Barb Mickelson) Hemen, Britton; Kathy (Jerry) Gilbert, Hitchcock, Cosette Hemen, Canton, Pat (Ruth) Hemen, Huron, Janice (Terry Oyler) Hemen, Black Hawk, Julie (Jim Halvorson) Hemen, Regal, MN; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and a sister, Leona Wessel, Britton.
      She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a sister, and two brothers.

**HELEN MARTINS
      Helen Martins, 68, died Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at Wheatcrest Hills Hospice Room, Britton.
      Funeral services were held Friday, July 3 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Britton with Rev. Chris Prumm officiating.
      Burial was in Britton Cemetery under direction of Price Funeral Chapel, Britton.
      Helen Jeanette Martins was born February 4, 1941 in Dayton Township of Marshall County, SD to Jerry and Emma (Rademacher) Martins. She attended school at Hillhead and then at Hamilton School, where she graduated from the eighth grade.
      After completing her education, she and her sister Dora moved to Pierre where they worked at Buhl's Cleaners for a short time. They returned to Britton, and Helen worked for many years at the Coffee Bar.
      She later went to work for Buhl's of Britton, where she remained for 28 years of dedicated service. She retired about a month ago, when she became ill. On Tuesday, June 23 she suffered a severe stroke, and was taken by helicopter to MeritCare Hospital in Fargo, ND. Four days later she returned to Britton, where she spent her last days in the Wheatcrest Hills Hospice Unit.
      Helen was a faithful member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Britton, having been baptized and confirmed there. She and Dora had cleaned the church for over the past 20 years. She was active in the quilt making group for World Relief.
      Helen lived life to the fullest, and enjoyed every moment. She was an avid bowler for many years on one of the leagues, enjoyed playing bingo and cards as well as working on puzzles. She liked to help with the Horton Work at the Fun After Fifty Club. Family picnics, gardening, traveling, shopping, knitting and crocheting were also favorite activities of Helen's.
      Survivors include; her five sisters: Dora Martins, Britton, Ruth (Sterling) Kenny, Houghton, Margaret Burger, Britton, Emma (Eugene) Buro, Hecla, Martha (Harold) Thompson, Albany, GA; a brother, Joseph (Frances) Martins, Claremont, and several nieces, nephews and their families, and a very dear friend, Gladys Doyle, Britton.
      She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister and six brothers.
