**CLAYTON ANDERSON Clayton Aaron Anderson, 93, Veblen, died April 2, 2009, at a nursing home in Sisseton. Funeral services were held Saturday, April 11, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Veblen with the Rev. Harold Watrous officiating. Organist was Karen Hornseth and vocalist was Coleen Halverson Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, was in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were his grandsons, Clayton Halverson, James S. Halverson, Ryan Anderson, Mark Anderson, Joe Anderson, and Andy Johnson. Honorary pallbearers were Ben Anderson, Vernal (Bud) Donnell, Basil Robertson, Gary Tyler, Ardean (Beans) Twite, John Manning, and Topper LaCroix. Clayton was born March 22, 1916, to Elmer and Emma (Gustafson) Anderson in Veblen. He married Alice Akre in 1935 and farmed in the Veblen area until 1979. Clayton and Alice were married for 71 years. Clayton was a great sports fan, especially baseball and basketball. He owned many different breeds of dogs in his lifetime, but was especially fond of hounds. He went on many fox and coyote hunts and was known far and wide for his excellent line of fox hounds. Survivors include; his six children: Aaron (Joan) Anderson, Veblen, Jim (Judy) Anderson, Las Vegas, NV, Jon (Mary) Anderson, Eden Prairie, MN, Barbara Kromer, Sisseton, Virginia Hilleson, Fayetteville, NC, Carol (Mike) Johnson, Vancouver, WA; one son-in-law, Curt Ebel, Vancouver, WA, 20 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, and four great, great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, two sisters, one daughter, and two grandsons. **FERN MCCART Fern D. McCart, 82, died Monday, April 13, 2009 at Edgewood Vista in Sioux Falls. Funeral service will be held at Friday, April 17 at 11 a.m. at George Boom Funeral Home in Sioux Falls with burial to follow at St. Michael Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Thursday, April 16 at the funeral home with the family present to greet friends from 6 - 8 p.m. Fern D. (Schwarting) McCart was born October 8, 1926 in Hecla to Henry and Elizabeth T. (Herther) Schwarting. After high school in Hecla, Fern moved to Aberdeen and worked at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company, the Alonzo Ward Hotel as a switchboard operator and McCord's Plant in Canton before retiring. Survivors include; her brother, Paul (Jean) Schwarting, Ridgedale, MO; sister, Etta Lewis, Oakes, ND; sisters-in-law, Jeanine Schwarting and LaVonne McCart of Sioux Falls, Elaine McCart, Southern California; daughters, Mary (Randy) Leininger, Patty (Bill) Quinlivan, Sioux Falls, Janel (Alan) Plucker, Canton, Christine McCart, Spearfish; son, Craig McCart, Sioux Falls; 7 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Victor Richard McCart on February 5, 2000; parents, three brothers, and one sister. A complete obituary and online registry is available at www.georgeboom.com. **CARL STORBAKKEN The funeral for Carl Storbakken, 90, longtime Veblen area farmer, will be Friday, April 17 at 2 p.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church of Veblen with Rev. Harold Watrous officiating. Music for the funeral will be presented by Coleen Halverson, organist with Rev. Harold Watrous and Terry Price, soloists. Spring burial will be in the Palestine Lutheran Cemetery, rural Veblen. Visitation will be one hour preceding the funeral at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Price Funeral Chapel of Britton. Casketbearers will be Jon Ackerman, Jared Ackerman, Joshua Ackerman, Jeffrey Storbakken, Michael Storbakken, Jon Storbakken and Tony Storbakken. He died Saturday, April 11, 2009 at the Rosholt Care Center in Rosholt. Carl A. Storbakken was born January 6, 1919 on a farm near Veblen to Alf and Rosetta (Edson) Storbakken. He grew up on a farm near where he was born. He attended grade schools at Fairview and Pleasant Prairie and Veblen High School. At the age of 18, Carl served in a Civilian Conservation Camp in the Black Hills for 6 months. On October 4, 1939 he married Ruth Norby at the Palestine Lutheran Church. They moved back to the farm where Carl had been born. They lived and farmed there until January of 2007 when they moved to the Rosholt Care Center in Rosholt. Carl was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church of Veblen, and a former member of the Palestine Lutheran Church. He had served on the church council and the school board. Carl had been active as a committee man on the ASC Board for over 30 years. He enjoyed going to auctions, and had a vast collection of antiques. Carl had been active in the Senior Citizens group and the Ruritan Club in Veblen. After retiring from active farming, Carl planted and maintained beautiful flower gardens that were the envy of all who saw them. Survivors include; his wife of Rosholt; two sons, Carlyle (Darlene) Storbakken, Maple Grove, MN, Dennis (Janet) Storbakken, Minneapolis, MN; one daughter, Joyce (Randy) Ackerman, Mapleton, ND; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; two brothers: Alvin (Marie) Storbakken, Britton, Leo (Glada) Storbakken, Minneapolis; three sisters: Mable Realdsen, Morris, MN, Ruth Nelson, Veblen, Lillian (Erling) Berger, Alexandria, MN; and a sister-in-law, Laurel Storbakken, Watertown. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, a granddaughter and a brother.
