**CHARMAINE JOHNSON Charmaine Joy Johnson, former Veblen resident, died February 7, 2009. Funeral service was held February 12. Burial was in Crystal Lake Cemetery, Washburn-McReavy Crystal Lake Chapel, was in charge of arrangements. Charmaine Joy Schaefer was born January 1, 1930 to Clarence and Bernice Schaefer. She married Burton Johnson July 10, 1948. In 1950 they moved to Robbinsdale, MN. Survivors include her daughters, Nancy (Jim) Isaacson and Karen Johnson; her sons, Steven (Mary), Timothy (Anne), David (Carol), Robert (Cindy) and James (Monique); 15 grandchildren; her sister, Janice Lindstone and sister-in-law, Margaret Swanson. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and two sons. **BETTY HEITMANN Mass of Christian Burial for Betty Heitmann, 77, will be 11 a.m. Saturday, February 28 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Eden. Reverend Fathers Tom Cool and DeWayne Kayser will co-celebrate. Spring burial will be in the Britton Cemetery under the direction of the Price Funeral Chapel of Britton. Visitation will be one hour preceding the funeral at the church in Eden. She died Saturday, February 21, 2009, at the Oakes Community Hospital of Oakes, ND. Betty Marie Schymanski was born November 3, 1931, at Wausau, WI to Michael Peter and Verna (Burclaff) Schymanski. She grew up and attended school there, graduating from Wausau High School. After completing her education, she worked for a number of years as a secretary in the Milwaukee and Racine areas. In 1953, she married Donald Ray Heitmann. They made their home in the Milwaukee area. Betty took training and became certified in interior decorating and design. She worked as an interior decorator for a furniture store in Milwaukee for many years. She and Don retired to Britton in 1985 where they lived for a year before moving to Eden. They have made their home there since that time. Betty was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Eden, and had belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary, the Lions Club and Amvets. She enjoyed doing oil paintings, and her training as an interior decorator gave her a keen eye for color and design. Betty was an avid bird watcher, and a true highlight for her was to spot a cardinal. Survivors include; her son, Dale (Jackie) Heitmann, Wausau, WI; a grandson; three brothers: Charles (Evelyn) Schymanski, Wausau, WI; Mike (Jean) Schymanski and Tom (Cathy) Schymanski, both of Arizona; a sister: Sandy (Myron) Rader, Wausau, WI; two brothers-in-law, Lyle (Jan) Heitmann, Portland, OR; Franklin Heitmann, Cogswell, ND; a sister-in-law, Lillie Heitmann, Ellendale, ND. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of over 55 years died just eleven days prior to Betty; and a sister. Betty's family would like to acknowledge their deep appreciation to Wheatcrest Hills of Britton, SD, and Four Seasons of Forman, ND, for the excellent care they provided for Betty and Don in their final weeks. It will always be remembered. **VIVIAN JASPERS Vivian Theresa Jaspers, 90, Albertville, MN, died Friday February 20, 2009 at the Memory Lane Home of Buffalo, MN. Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday February 23 at St. Henry Catholic Church of Monticello, MN with Fr. Tim Rudolphi officiating. Interment was at St. Henry Catholic Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were with Peterson-Grimsmo Chapel of Monticello, MN. Vivian Keintz was born on August 1, 1918 in Eden to John and Susie (Opitz) Keintz. She grew up in the Eden area. She was united in marriage to Raymond Jaspers in Eden June 27, 1939. The couple farmed for many years before moving to St. Michael, MN in 1989, and then to Albertville, MN in 1998. Vivian had made her home in Buffalo, MN for the past two years. She enjoyed being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, doing crafts, and gardening. Survivors include; her son Darius (Angela) Jaspers, Glencoe, MN; daughter Monica (Dale) Wald, Albertville, MN; siblings Cornelius Keintz, Sylvia (Ralph) Grode, Sibylla Opitz; eleven grandchildren; and thirteen great grandchildren. Vivian was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 2001; two grandsons, great grandson, sister-in-law and brother-in-law. **GERMAINE BARNARD Germaine M. Barnard died January 11, 2009, in her home. Burial was held January 20 at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN. Germaine M. Swanson was born June 4, 1923 to Frank and Ida (Rundquist) Swanson in Veblen. She and her twin brother, Gerald were the youngest of five children. In 1937 the family moved to Ashley, ND. She graduated from Ashley High School in 1941. She served in the United States Coast Guard during World War II. After the war, she attended business school in Minneapolis where she met her first husband, Gordon Kristensen. They were married in1947. They lived in Minneapolis until 1964 when they moved to Chicago, IL. She moved to Peters, MO, in 1998. Survivors include; a son, Greg Kristensen; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Frank Swanson. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Gordon Kristensen (1972) and Bruce Barnard (1989), two brothers, and a sister. **MERLE ANDERSON Merle E. Anderson, 65, died Monday, February 16, 2009 at his home in Sioux Falls. Merle Emil Anderson was born October 26, 1943 at Britton to Emil and Marion (Nelson) Anderson. He attended school in Pierpont, graduating in 1961. Merle served in the United States Air Force, and remained very patriotic until his death. Merle married Loretta Hope Warne July 23, 1975. They lived in several areas of South Dakota before settling in Sioux Falls in 2002, due to Merle's failing health. Merle enjoyed playing cards, collecting guns and wartime memorabilia, and listening to music. His favorite times were spent with family. Survivors include his wife of Sioux Falls; his daughters, Carla (John) Schwartz, Sioux Falls and Candace Anderson, Sioux Falls; a grandson; a granddaughter; his mother, Marion (Nelson) Anderson, Groton; his daughters from a previous marriage, Melanie Anderson, Aberdeen, Yvette Anderson, Sioux Falls, Jacquita Vetter of Redfield, and several grandchildren; his brother, David (Linda) Anderson, Groton; his sisters, Carol (Mick Sippel) Anderson, Groton and Nancy (Brian) Sundstrom, Groton. He was preceded in death by a son and his father. Funeral services was held Friday at Falnes Lutheran Church, rural Langford. Interment was in Falnes Cemetery. Miller Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
