*Mildred Huckell The funeral for Mildred Huckell, 91, was held. Saturday, February 3 at Nordland Lutheran Church of Rutland, ND. The Reverend Kristen Schwan will officiated. Burial was held in the Rutland Cemetery under the direction of the Price Funeral Chapel of Forman. She died Tuesday, January 30 at Four Seasons Healthcare Center in Forman. Mildred Tillie Arneson was born March 17, 1915 on the family farm in Tewaukon Township of Sargent County, near Havana, ND to Henry and Alma Johanna (Peterson) Arneson. As a youngster, she grew up there and attended rural Sargent County schools. After receiving her education, Millie did housekeeping and child care for area families. On October 10, 1936 she married Leslie Jay Huckell at Britton. They farmed in the Havana area on a couple of different farm sites before moving to the Huckell family homestead in 1942. Leslie died November 24, 1980 and Millie moved into Rutland a short time later. She continued to make her home in Rutland until moving to Four Seasons Healthcare Center in April of 2001. Millie was a member of the Nordland Lutheran Church of Rutland, and had been active in the ladies group there. She also had belonged to the Rutland Senior Citizens, and a homemaker's extension club. Millie and Leslie had been avid square dancers, and also belonged to a square dance club. After moving to Rutland. Millie enjoyed sewing and reading. While living on the farm, she had a large garden, and after moving into Rutland, she continued raising flowers. Survivors include; her children: James (Darlene) Huckell, Havana, Alwood (Geri) Huckell, Devils Lake, ND, Colleen (Colin) Sundquist, Forman, ND; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, and an infant great-grandson. Music for the funeral was provided by Phyllis Wyum, organist and Michael Wyum, soloist. Casketbearers were Harlan Arneson, Randy Arneson, Mark Arneson, Neil Herman, Dean Stabnow and Gary Thornberg. Honorary casketbearers were all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. *Bernadene Nelson Bernadene Nelson, 86, died February 2, 2007. Funeral services were held. Monday, February 5 at Evangelical Lutheran Church of Langford. The Rev. Charlie Bunk will officiated. Burial was in the Hillside Cemetery, rural Langford. Price Funeral Chapel of Britton was in charge of arrangements. Bernadene (Jacobs) Nelson was born March 18, 1920 on the family homestead near Hebron, ND to John A. and Jenny (Twist) Jacobs. When Bernadene was 12 years old, her mother died. At the time Bernadene and her sister, Leota, started high school, the two girls moved into the home of Rev. W. L. Ellickson in Taylor, ND. She graduated from Taylor High School, then attended Lutheran Bible Institute in Minneapolis, MN and nurses training in Britton. She married Severine A. Nelson of Pierpont November 21, 1942 in Langford. They made their home on a farm in Hickman Township, north of Langford. Seven children were born to the couple, two of whom died in infancy. Bernadene was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Langford. She will be remembered by her family and friends for her sense of humor, her baking, gardening, her love of music, singing, and her deep Christian faith. She and Severine had enjoyed traveling in their retirement years. They saw many places in the United States, as well as a trip to Norway. She moved to Spruce Court Assisted Living, after Severine's death May 17, 2000. She lived at Wheatcrest Hills in Britton, SD and Sun Dial Manor in Bristol. Survivors include two sons: Delbert (Melody) Nelson, Hudson, WY and Wayne (Jean) Nelson, Langford; three daughters, Linda (Verlin) Abramson, Sartell, MN, Betty (Kevin) Carson, Langford, Kristie Langness, Moorhead, MN; two sisters, Leota Jurgens, Taylor, ND and Joan (Warren) Foss, Redwood Falls, MN; 18 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, her stepmother, two brothers, two infant sons, and one great-grandaughter. Casketbearers were her grandsons: Brook Nelson, Kyle Fagerland, Jeff Fagerland, Jesse Fagerland, Tyler Carson, Bryce Carson and Daniel Langness. Honorary casketbeares were: Sherri (Tom) Landmark, Heidi (Scott) Boekelheide, Heather Jensen, Ellisa (Aaron) Nyberg, Audra Carson, Janna Langness, Kelsey Langness, Danny Abramson, Tom Abramson, David Abramson, Mark Abramson, Bethany Nelson, Karen Fagerland, Michelle Fagerland, Destri Fagerland, Eva Carson and Erin Carson. *Nora Torngren Nora D. Torngren, 98, died January 27, 2007. Funeral services were held January 31 at Advantage Funeral Home, Hales Corners, WI. Burial was in Forest Hill Cemetery. Nora Maxam was born in Brampton, ND. She moved to Newark where she met Carl Torngren. They were married October 3, 1928. Nora and Carl were the owners and operators of the State Line Newspaper. In 1952 they moved to Wisconsin. Survivors include her children, Llewellyn (Theresa), Endeavor, WI, Tharan (Ione), Redding, CA, Theander (Donna) Meadview, AZ and Rodney (Nancy) Waterford, WI; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, three brothers, a sister, a granddaughter and a grandson. *Joseph Braun Mass of Christian Burial for Joseph D. Braun,78, will be 10 a.m. Friday, February 9, at St. John de Britto Catholic Church of Britton, with Rev. Fr. DeWayne Kayser, celebrant. Visitation will be from 4-5 p.m. Thursday at the Price Funeral Chapel, Britton, with a 5 p.m. Vigil Service. There will also be visitation one hour preceding the funeral at the church on Friday. Burial will be in the Houghton Cemetery with Military Honors presented by Marshall Post #3507 of the V.F.W. and Britton Post #80 of the American Legion. Joe died Saturday, February 3, at Wheatcrest Hills in Britton. Joseph Daniel Braun was born on the family farm near Ipswich to Andrew F. and Lucy (Lacher) Braun. He grew up and attended school there. After completing his education, Joe worked on the family farm. He served in the U. S. Army from April of 1951 to April of 1953, seeing active duty in Korea. He was honorably discharged, and returned to the farm near Ipswich. On September 18, 1956, he married Dorothy Agnes Miles at Faulkton. They moved to the Braun farm near Ipswich, where they farmed until the early 1960's. Over the next few years, they lived in the Conde, Groton, and Ipswich areas, before moving to the Groton area in the 1970's, and later near Houghton. In 1979 they moved into Claremont, where Joe remained until November of 2005 when he became a resident of Wheatcrest Hills in Britton. Joe was primarily a farmer for most of his working life. He did work for a short time as a machinist at Horton, and in the maintenance department at the Marshall Manor. Joe was a member of St. John de Britto Catholic Church of Britton, and Marshall Post #3507 of the V.F.W. Survivors include his wife of Britton; three sons, Jeffrey (Cathy) Braun, Houghton; Sheldon Braun, Yale; and Gaylon Braun; five grandchildren; two brothers, Frank D. (Armella) Braun, Ipswich, and Edward (Gladys) Braun, Aberdeen; and one sister, Minnie Rappe, Ipswich. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and one sister. Casketbearers will be Aaron Braun, Brian Miles, Jon Braun, Tim Braun, Peter Lahr, and Chuck Rappe. *Verna Anderson The funeral for Verna L. Anderson, 96, will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 10, at Price Funeral Chapel of Britton with Pastor LaVerle Syverson officiating. Visitation will be one hour preceding the funeral at the funeral chapel. Burial will be in the Immanuel Cemetery of rural Havana. Lunch will follow at the Havana Civic Center. Verna died Sunday, February 4, 2007, at Wheatcrest Hills in Britton. Verna Lorinda Syverson was born June 15, 1910, on the family farm near Havana, ND, to Ole and Clara (Halvorson) Syverson. She grew up there, and attended rural Sargent County schools through the eighth grade. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. After receiving her education, Verna worked as a housekeeper and also cooked for threshers during the harvest season. On November 17, 1932, she married Harry E. Anderson at Lake City. They farmed in the Havana area until retiring from farming and moving into Havana in 1968. Harry died June 29, 1983. Verna continued to make her home in Havana until moving to Wheatcrest Hills in Britton in 1997, where she resided until the time of her own death. Verna was active in church, first as a member of the Immanuel Lutheran congregation, and after that church closed, as a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Havana. At Trinity, she belonged to the Ladies Aide and the quilting group. Survivors include two children, Harris L. (Karen) Anderson, Havana, ND, and Sharon (Rodney) Johnson, Wheaton, MN; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Cora Syverson, Britton, and Dorothy Syverson, Princeton, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter, three sisters, and three brothers. Casketbearers will be her grandchildren. Her honorary casketbearers will be her nieces and nephews, and all of her many friends. Music will be presented by Doris Olson, organist, and Terry Price, soloist. *Neal LaMee Services for Neal LaMee, 70, Groton, were held Friday, February 2 at Zion Lutheran Church, Andover. Rev. Lloyd Redhage officiated. Burial was in the Andover Cemetery under the direction of Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel, Groton. He died January 28, 2007 at his residence. Neal LaMee was born March 15, 1936 to Dale and Vera (Thompson) LaMee near Havana, ND. He attended Nordland School and graduated from Havana High School in 1954. Following graduation, he drove a gravel truck for a construction company and was employed by Stillson Service and the Purina Feed Company in Sisseton. Neal married Erna Oldenburg July 6, 1958. They lived in Sisseton for a year before moving to a farm near Andover, where they farmed for almost 30 years before moving to Groton. Neal was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Andover, where he served as an elder. He enjoyed woodworking, spending time with his grandchildren and visiting with friends. Survivors include; his wife of Groton, one daughter, Dr. Dawn LaMee, Watertown, two sons, David (Glenda) LaMee, Groton and William "Bill" (Laurie) LaMee, Andover, five grandchildren and a brother-in-law, Norman Carlson, Britton. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son and a sister. Casketbearers were Jim Kroll, Andrew Paulson, Loren Helmer, Dennis Marske, Donald Blair and Russ Howe.
