Showcasing the dancing talents of dozens of local students, the Westberry Dance Studio of Britton will present it's annual recital on Tuesday, May 26, at 7:30 p.m. at the Amacher Auditorium in the Britton High School. The public is encouraged to attend.
'Dance 2009' offers something for audience members of all ages and tastes. A ballet corps of seven will present a beautiful suite, dancing to music from the movie 'Schindler's List'. If Broadway-style character dances are your thing. Westberry has included 'One' from A Chorus Line, 'Can't Stop the Beat' from Hairspray, and senior tap performances to 'Sing, Sing, Sing' and 'Jailhouse Rock'.
Preschoolers and kindergarteners will perform 'I'm So Glad I'm Me' and first- and second-graders, 'Supercalifragilisticexpialidocous' from Mary Poppins. Tap dancing comes alive with 'Great Balls of Fire' and' Rhinocerous Tap'. A series of jazz performances bring alive some of the best music of the present, including 'Disturbia', 'Let it Rock', and 'Breakin' Dishes'.
The elegance of costuming is extraordinary, and yet to be matched. That being a small taste of what is to come, a total of twenty numbers in all will be performed. Fast-paced and professional, this recital will thrill your senses.
Four seniors will be graduating from the Westberry Dance Studio this year. Lexy Weber, Carmen Allcock and Shelby Freeman studied tap, character and jazz over the studio's past three years and will be featured in a senior trio tap number. Tyra Gefroe has studied ballet and jazz and will perform a lyrical dance as a soloist.
From preschoolers through senior graduates, dancers will perform in a variety of dance styles including ballet, jazz, character, dance team, and tap. Students of the Westberry Dance Studio train one evening a week from September to May in their various dance disciplines in preparation for the annual event. Ballet is the emphasized discipline and the studio operates as a school rather than recreational program.
The studio concentrates on each discipline in it's truest form, bringing a wealth of dance experience and vast range of culture to each student and audience member alike.
The Westberry Dance Studio is located in the Strand Theatre in Britton.
Classes are held on Tuesdays, and the studio enrolls preschool through grade
12.
Tickets will be available Tuesday afternoon and prior to performance at the Amacher Auditorium. For more information on Westberry Dance, visit westberrydance.com or call the studio phone at 605.380.1822.
