Turkey Banquet Set For Friday
The Gateway to the Glacial Lakes Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation will be hosting its eighth annual banquet on Friday at The Rainbow south of Britton. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. for social time and viewing of auction items, followed by a grilled steak or shrimp dinner at 7 p.m. Games, raffles, and auction fun will follow, along with the awarding of two scholarships. Organizers emphasize that the banquet is a family event with games and prizes for all ages. Of special interest is a gun raffle that will benefit the Marshall County Food Pantry. One chance at the gun will be given for every two food items (no limit), or attendees can purchase chances for $2. Ken's Food Fair of Britton has also committed $150 of food through the event. The National Wild Turkey Federation was founded in 1973 to help fund habitat for the introduction of wild turkeys to local areas and education. This year the local chapter will again offer two scholarships through the state association and in memory of Brenda Wurtz, the local chapter's first president who was killed in a motorcycle accident a few years ago. With the awarding of this year's scholarships, local students will have received over $3,500 from the local group. Melissa Henning is serving as this year's banquet chairperson. Lynda Luttrell is the local chapter president and Jennifer Monsen is treasurer. Other board and committee members include Carole Chapin, Bucko Monsen, Mike Kraft, Rose Kraft, Nate Dinger, Stacy Werner, and Kristi Werner.
