One state qualifier and four top 20 finishes highlighted Belmond-Klemme's effort at the weather-delayed class 1A district/regional meet last Monday at Marshalltown.
Grant van der Linden became the first Bronco qualifier since 1998 with his ninth place finish in 18:10. He was followed by Justin Meyer in 18:46 for 15th, Joel Wilhelm in 19:03 for 20th, A.J. Griffioen in 21:06 for 68th, Corey Been in 21:30 for 81st, and Chris Tendall in 27:15 for 106th. A total of 109 harriers ran in the boys' race.
Coach Ron Steveson said, "Having three runners finish in the top 20 was fantastic - Grant (9th), Justin (15th) and Joel (20th). Only BCLUW had that many in the top 20 and they won the meet. Grant is the first B-K harrier to qualify for state since 1998."
Mindy Loats paced a shorthanded B-K team with an 18th place finish in 17:50. Next in line were Jennifer Dorenkamp in 18:18 for 27th, Bridgette Nelson in 19:34 for 57th, Rachel Martens in 20:34 for 75th, Jessica Hinman in 21:05 for 79th, and Jessica Landgraf in 23:47 for 91st. There were 99 runners in the girls' race.
Steveson commented, "Mindy Loats ran a great race, and Jenn Dorenkamp moved up on the school top 10 all-time list with her 18:18 time.
"I was pleased that both squads placed seventh out of the 22 competing teams," he added.

    STATE RESULTS
Grant van der Linden capped a successful season running in Saturday's four-class state meet at the Lakeside Golf Course at Kennedy Park in Fort Dodge. The Bronco sophomore finished 64th of 137 class 1A runners in 18:20.
