A Tate County man remains behind bars on sex charges after a July 6 arrest. A man identified by authorities as William Todd Brewer, a 41-year-old native of Senatobia, was arrested on a charge of possession of child pornography, and has since been charged with two counts of alleged sexual battery of a child under the age of 14 involving two children and one count of alleged sexual battery of a child aged 14-15. Brewer made his first appearance before Justice Court Judge Bobby Taylor on Tuesday. A preliminary date for Brewer's second court date has been set for July 26, although Tate County Sheriff Brad Lance said that the date is subject to change. Lance said that the local law enforcement received a tip with enough information to justify the execution of a search warrant. The search was completed before midnight July 5 and law enforcement found evidence to arrest Brewer on the child pornography charge. Three additional sexual battery charges have since been added. The maximum sentence Brewer could potentially receive is equivalent to two life sentences plus an additional 70 years. The two sexual battery charges of a child under 14 each carry a minimum of 20 years and a maximum life sentence. The sexual battery charge of aged 14-15 carries a maximum sentence of 30 years. The possession of child pornography charge carries a maximum sentence of 40 years with a minimum of five years. Brewer had been a state Boy Scout Executive since 2009, responsible for coordinating scout leaders over a four-county region that included Tate County, DeSoto County, Tunica County and Panola County. Brewer was relieved of his duties following the arrest, according to Boy Scout officials. A mother of one of the victims said that the family did not know Brewer but that she knew Brewer had a female roommate with two sons, one of which was her son's age, which was how her son came into contact with Brewer. She added that her son would sometimes stay the night with his friend. "I had no clue," the woman said. The mother asked for respect and privacy for her family during this time. "Senatobia detectives and our investigators are working this case. It's still early but I anticipate additional charges to be filed," Lance said. While everyone is supposed to be innocent until proven guilty; we all know that isn't exactly how it works. And regardless, a person who has authority over children and is then brought up on these types multiple charges must be removed from that authority. Children's safety MUST be the first p[riority and they MUST protected. And simply because the mother said she had no idea, doesn't mean she is money grubbing. Even those who know this man (I hope) had no idea of his (alleged) proclivaties. Simply meeting someone will not give you an insight into a person's mind.

If you would read the article carefully, you would see that Sheriff Lance was identified in the paragraph.
