Tate County residents can get a jump on their holiday shopping - and give a boost to the local economy - at Senatobia's annual Holiday Open House.
The November 21 event is sponsored by the Tate County Economic Development Foundation, and, according to TCEDF Executive Director Janie Mortimer, is open to retailers all over Senatobia.
The open house will run from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Participating stores will be marked by a red bow on their front doors. Mortimer says that this year's Open House will have many of the same events as past years - such as drawings, store specials, and refreshments at participating retailers.
In addition, there will once again be a small arts-and-crafts fair in the building at Front and Main Streets, across from the Senatobia Post Office.
Mortimer also says that this year, a booth will be set up by the Senatobia Main Street Partnership's Celebrate Senatobia Sesquicentennial committee.
Residents are encouraged to bring their old photographs of Senatobia, to be scanned at the booth for use in promotional materials for the city's 150th birthday in 2010. Photos will be scanned on-site and returned to their owners. Shoppers will also be treated to caroling by local groups, and Santa will make an appearance for children to have their photos made.
In addition to drawings at individual stores, Mortimer says the TCEDF will once again hold a grand prize drawing for several thousand dollars worth of gift certificates to local retailers.
"We want to keep that prize money in Senatobia," she says.
