It's hard to believe that we are already five weeks into the regular season. I guess the saying "time flies when you're having fun" is true. This past Friday night was no exception, well at least for one local team and not so fun for others. Senatobia continued to dominate through their schedule while Independence and Strayhorn both had nights that they will hope to soon forget and Coldwater was on standby after their big win a week ago.

Senatobia hosted Byhalia for their first conference game of the year and the Indians seemed to be a worthy opponent coming into the game winning three straight. The Warrior defense stepped up in this one and earned their first shutout of the season holding the Indians scoreless. The Warrior offense also got off two a good start scoring twenty points in the first quarter and a half. Quarterback, Dex Herrington, led the charge with talented backs Josh Garrett and Quintavius Burdette along with wide receiver Kentrell Bowen. Senatobia improved to 5-0 after the 33-0 win and will likely add another victory next week when they take on North Panola at home.

The boys from Strayhorn weren't so happy after they hosted Biggersville. The Lions came to town and walked all over the Mustangs taking away a 48-8 victory. Strayhorn running back, Bishop Temple, rushed for eighty-five yards and scored the team's lone touchdown. Strayhorn is at home next week when Lewisburg comes to town. The Patriots are also winless on the season, so this could be the Mustangs chance to get one in the win column.

The Mustangs weren't the only team to have a tough night on Friday, Independence went to New Albany and the Bulldogs handed them a 35-0 loss. "We took one on the chin," said Coach Michael Dogan. "We just didn't get anything going on either side of the ball." The Bulldogs came out with a "power football" game plan that the Wildcats were not ready for. "They didn't show that in any of the game films that we had seen and we weren't ready to stop it," said Dogan. The Wildcats are on the road again this week when they travel to Water Valley. The Blue Devils are 2-2 and also coming off of a loss. Look for both teams to be hungry in this matchup and it will be interesting to see who takes this game.

The Cougars had the night off this week after their biggest win since the 2006 season. Coldwater defeated Jumpertown 46-6 and will look to make it three straight when they return to action this week taking on Vardaman at home. The Rams are also 2-1 and this should be a good game.

This Friday, there is plenty of Tate County football action. Senatobia should remain undefeated, Strayhorn could win their first game of the season, Independence will look to bounce back on the road and Coldwater has a shot at winning three straight after not winning at all last year. Be sure to check back next week to get the answer to these questions and more!
