On Friday, Independence hosted Strayhorn for their first varsity matchup and it was a long night for the Mustangs. The Wildcats jumped out to an early lead when senior, Rainey Tuggles, scored on a forty-nine yard run on the second play from scrimmage. Tuggles scored two more touchdowns on runs of seventy-five and fifty-two yards. He now has eight touchdowns in three games and saw limited action during the second half of this one. Also visiting the end-zone for Independence was; London Parker, Shane Tutor, Jearl Avant and Morris Malone. Malone scored on a thirteen yard pass from Tutor.

Sophomore, Jawanza Newson, also played well for the Wildcats on offense and grabbed a pick on defense.

The Wildcats improved to 2-2 with the win over Strayhorn. They'll travel to New Albany this week and it's a good matchup for Independence. New Albany has given up a lot of points so far this season and the Wildcat offense should put some points on the board.

Quarterback, Dylan Cottrell, hooked up with Issiac Oneal for the lone Mustangs score. Strayhorn slipped to 0-3 on the year with the loss and they've got a tough opponent coming up. They host Biggersville this Friday and the Lions have a solid defense that will give the Mustangs some problems.
