The Magnolia Heights Chiefs baseball team defeated the Oak Hill Academy Raiders 16-3 in a conference game at West Point, Thursday, April 30.
Jeremy Massie was the winning pitcher. Starters for the Chiefs were: Tyler Graves, 2 hits; Massie, 2 singles, 1 double, and 3 runs; Jake Brigman, 2 doubles and 2 runs; Jimmy Braswell, 2 singles, 1 homerun, and 2 runs; Parker Gaines, 2 singles and 1 run; Shane Turnage, 1 single, 2 doubles, and 2 runs; Adam Webb, 2 doubles; Phillip Correro, 1 single and 1 run; Nathan Smith, 1 hit and 2 runs. Also seeing action was Justin Faulkner, 3 runs.
The Chiefs finished their regular season with a record of 24-5, with a conference record of 14-3. The won not only the championship of the Academy North AAA Division, but the overall Academy North AAA Championship.
Having won the North AAA Division 2 Championship, the Chiefs met the Presbyterian Christian Bobcats of Hattiesburg, runnersup in the Academy South AAA Divison 2 in a best 2 of 3 in the first round of the playoffs.
Tuesday, May 5, on the MH Field in the first game ofthe series, the Chiefs defeated the Bobcats 2-1.
Derrick Johnson went the distance of 7 innings to get the win. He gave up 4 hits andstruckout 6.
The Chiefs scored 1 run in the first. A single by Jeremy Massie, a walk to Jake Brigman, and a single by Jimmy Braswell loaded the bases. Parker Gaines flied out scoring Massie.
The Chiefs scored their final run in the fourth. Braswell singled and scored on a double by Shane Turnage. The Bobcats scored their lone run in the fourth.

Also seeing action was Justin Faulkner, 0 for 0.
The Chiefs are now 25-5. They were to have the second game of the playoff in Hattiesburg Wednesday, May 6. The third game, if necessary, was to have been played, Friday, May 8, on the MH Field. If the Chiefs win the first round of the playoffs, they will play for the Academy State AAA Championship the following week.
