James W. Embrey

James W. Embrey, 87, of Memphis, formerly of the Greenleaf Community, retired from Trunk Line Gas Company, member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, and an Army Veteran, died August 31, 2009 at Allenbrock Nursing Home. Services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 2 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Independence, Miss. Burial followed in Mt. Zion Cemetery. Mr. Embrey was preceded in death by Dorothy Valeria and daughter, Donna. He leaves a daughter, Wanda Underwood and her husband, Tom of Tupelo, Miss.; five sisters, Elslie Allen of Senatobia, Miss., Julia Frances Respess of Horn Lake, Miss., Lois Hutchison of Coldwater, Miss., and Robbie Chapman of Nesbit, Miss.; four grandchildren, Jeffrey Underwood, Jarett Underwood, James Michael Davis and Courtney McMullin; and six great-grandchildren.

Rebecca Newson Gordon

Rebecca Newson Gordon, 48, factory worker, of Holly Springs, Miss., passed away August 31, 2009. Services were held at the Thyatira Family Life Center Saturday, September 5, 2009 at 1 p.m. Burial was in Carter Memorial Cemetery in Senatobia, Miss.

She is survived by her husband, Vidal Gordon; three sons, Jobry Newson of Barton, Miss., Minor Payne and Andrew Payne both of Senatobia, Miss.; parent, Sidney B. Newson of Holly Springs, Miss.; three sisters, Isabell Jones and Janett Smith both of Holly Springs, Miss., and Vernessa Hibbler of Senatobia, Miss.; six brothers, Eddie D. Newson and Willie B. Newson, both of Holly Springs, Miss., Kennith Newson of Nesbit, Miss., Robert Newson of Columbia, Mo., Lavorn Newson of Como, Miss., and Sylvester Wooten of Senatobia, Miss.; and two grandchildren.

Renette Jackson

Renette Jackson, 44, of Senatobia, Miss., passed away August 30, 2009. Services were held at 12 noon on Saturday, September 5, 2009 at Paradise M.B. Church in Senatobia, Miss. Burial followed in Senatobia Memorial Cemetery. Felix Cauthen Funeral Home had charge of the arrangements.

She is survived by two daughters, Marquita and Marian Jackson, both of Senatobia, Miss.; a son, Rodriguez Jackson of Senatobia, Miss.; parents, Irma Ree Jackson of Milwaukee, Wis. and Sidney Jones of Milwaukee, Wis.; four brothers, A.B. Jackson of Tama, Iowa, Sidney, Terry and Anthony Jackson, all of Milwaukee, Wis.; grandmother, Lizzie Cox of Milwaukee, Wis.; and one grandchild.

David Pate

David Pate, 75 of Senatobia, died Friday, August 28 at Baptist DeSoto Hospital in Southaven. He was born in Flora, Mississippi to Nelson "Ned" Pate and Martha Taylor Pate. After graduating from high school he moved to Chicago and in 1982 he and his wife, Minnie, moved from Chicago to the Houston, Texas area. Later in 2001, he moved to Senatobia to work along with the local congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses in the door to door ministry. He served the Tate County area faithfully for eight years. He was also the rural carrier for The Democrat for four years.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Minnie; his daughter, Sharon Driver-Sudds (Reginald) of Chicago, Illinois; three grandsons, Allen David Driver of Oak Forest, Illinois;, Colin Sudds and Zachary Sudds, both of Chicago, Illinois: two sisters, Rosie Bailey and Eunice Bryant, both of Lancaster, California; one nephew, Kenneth Bryant (Danielle) of Tehachapi, California: three nieces, Glynis Burton, Jean Thompson, and Rita Hamilton, all of Lancaster, California, and a host of grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

A memorial service will be held September 12, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 3813 Hwy 51 South in Senatobia, Ms.
