Clara Mitchell Bridwell, 88, of Bruce, Miss., passed away April 30, 2009 at Hospice Ministries, Inc. in Ridgeland, Miss.
She was a homemaker, former employee of Garan, Inc. Textile Factory in Lambert, Miss., member of Highland Baptist Church in Senatobia, Miss.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 2, 2009 at Parker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Bruce, Miss. Burial was in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Bruce, Miss. Pallbearers were Edwin Lee Parker, Jimmy White, Boyd Falvey, Danny Ivy, Gary Ivy and Travis England.
She is survived by two daughters, Linda Mitchell Burdine of Hattiesburg and Thersa Mitchell Hearn of Pearl, Miss.; three sons, Larry Dean Mitchell of Lima, Ohio, Donald Mitchell of Newman, Ga., and Gail Mitchell of Clarksdale, Miss.; one brother, Lennon Ray White of Calhoun City, Miss.; 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
J. T. Busby
J. T. Busby, 80, passed away May 5, 2009 at Baptist Memorial Hospital DeSoto. Memorial services were held Friday, May 8, 2009 at his residence in Hernando, Miss.
He leaves his son, Tracy Busby of Senatobia, Miss.; his sister, Claudia Carpenter of Independence, Miss.; and two grandchildren.
Annie Mae Crump
Annie Mae Crump, 73, of Senatobia, Miss., passed away May 3, 2009 at Baptist DeSoto Hospital. Services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 9 at West Looxahoma Church of Christ where she was a member. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Felix Cauthen Funeral Home in Senatobia, Miss. had charge of the arrangements.
She is survived by her son, Gregory Louis Atkins of Senatobia, Miss.; 7 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Broady Lee Feathers
Broady Lee Feathers, 96, passed away May 1, 2009 at Baptist Memorial Hospital Oxford.
He was born June 28, 1912 and was one of 18 children that were born to George Edward and Mary Jane Yeager Feathers. He was retired from the National Cooperage Division of Hiram Walker Distillery in Peoria, Ill. and was a retired farmer.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Maudie Myrtle Canady Feathers, and their daughter, Eva Ruth Feathers Johnson and his son-in-law Terry Finney.
He is survived by three daughters, Maudie Lee Howell (Chester) of Como, Miss., Easter Lilly Phillips(Phil) of Mapleton, Ill and Alice Lorene Finney of Peoria, Ill.; one son, Brodie Jack Feathers of Como, Miss.; two sisters, Gladys Smith of Waterford, Miss. and Rena Hutchings of Clarksdale, Miss.; 18 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and 20 great great grandchildren. He will be missed by many other family members and friends.
Services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 4 at Pate-Jones Funeral Home in Senatobia. Bro. Frank Feathers officiated. Burial followed at Bethesda Cemetery in Senatobia.
The family request any memorials be sent to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital.
William Heard
William Heard, 74, of Coldwater, Miss., passed away April 30, 2009. Services were held at Bluff Road Church of Christ in Coldwater, Miss., May 6, 2009 at 12 noon. Burial was in Bluff Road Church of Christ Cemetery. Rodgers Funeral Home in Coldwater, Miss. had charge of the arrangements.
He is survived by his sons, Jerry Lee Ayers and Norman Allen, both of Memphis, Tenn.; sisters, Irene Pollard of Coldwater, Miss., Katie Hubbard of Memphis, Tenn., Dorothy Bennett of Coldwater, Miss., Ruby Ester of Coldwater, Miss., Laura Holland of Memphis, Tenn., and Estella Ware of Memphis, Tenn.; brother, Hersia Bowdery of Coldwater, Miss.; 5 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
William Douglas "Doug" Henderson
William Douglas "Doug" Henderson, age 88, passed away Sunday, May 3, 2009 at Baptist Memorial Hospital of North Miss. in Oxford, Miss. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 7, 2009 in Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Karen O'Brien, Reverend David Snellgrove, Dr. David Ball and Mr. Ronnie Darby officiated. Military Honors were given at Greenleaf Cemetery, Coldwater, Miss.
Mr. Henderson was born on May 20, 1920 in Tate County, Mississippi to Iverson Floyd and Wilma Casey Henderson. He was married to the late Ruby Dix Henderson for 62 years. He was a retired Civil Service Employee. Doug served our country as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force during World War II where he was a Prisoner of War for 13.5 months. Doug was former commander and chief of the Northern Mississippi Chapter of X-POWS. He was also a member of the VFW and Masonic Lodge #66 and a member of the Batesville Presbyterian Church.
Suvivors include daughter: Carol Lee Henderson of Batesville, Miss.; son: William Donald Henderson of Hernando, Miss.; three grandchildren: Donnie Henderson, Kim Daigle and Sandi Wallace; three great-grandchildren: Tiffany Henderson, Adam Howington and Chase Howington.
Charles Edward Marcum
Charles Edward Marcum, 84 of Independence, Miss., formerly of Memphis, died in an auto accident Tuesday, May 5, 2009 in Senatobia, Miss.
Ed was a World War II veteran with the Headquarters company 2d Battalion 182d Infantry where he received an honorable discharge from the Army on December 11, 1945. He retired from Memorial Park Funeral Home after 17 years where he received several certificates and awards for his dedicated service.
He was the youngest of 13 children born to Richard & Iva Marcum, of which he was the last survivor. Ed, known to many as Peepaw, will be greatly missed by his family and friends, where he was always eager to lend a helping hand.
Ed is survived by his daughters, Julie Newcome of Independence, Miss., and Linda Kerbough of Arlington, Tenn.; grandchildren, Amy Peeples and Wayne Vannucci, both of Independence, Miss. and Nikki Kerbough Brister, of Arlington, Tenn.; and seven great-grandchildren, Wade, Mark, Lane, Jessi and Jodi Peeples; and Tyler and Carly Vannucci, all of Independence, Miss.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Marsha Vannucci.
Funeral Services were held Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Interment will be at Memphis Memory Gardens.
Eula Cockrell Williams
Services for Eula Cockrell Williams were held Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of McClain-Hays Funeral Horne in Philadelphia, Miss. Rev. Jimmy Townsend officiated. Burial followed in Fellowship Cemetery.
Mrs. Williams, 80, died Friday, May 1, 2009 at her daughter's residence in Como, Miss.
She was a native of Leake County and a long time resident of Philadelphia, Miss. She had lived with her daughter in Como for the past 1 1/2 years. Mrs. Williams was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Philadelphia.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Williams and great-grandson, Jeremiah Burton.
Survivors include daughters, Jeanie McMillan of Philadelphia, Sherry Copeland of Philadelphia, and Judy Jolly of Como; sons, Dr. Mike Cockrell of Como and Johnny Cockrell of Niceville, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Linc McMillan, Joe Copeland, Richard Lewis, Jonathan Cockrell, Bill Bradley, Andrew Burgess, Jason McGlaughlin, and Aaron Bradley.
